The transmission takes 4 qts, but unless you tear it apart to get every last drop out you'll never put that much back in during a change, IIRC. Even with pulling the drain plug there's some leftover. I say this mostly so no one panics if they can't get a full 4 qts back in before it starts spilling out.

If you can't physically get under the car (I drove it up on 4 pieces of 2x lumber and it gave me just enough space, YMMV though), then I suppose the fluid extractor would be better than nothing. I'm not positive you could get at the fill plug from the top though. As I recall, I opened it from under the car and then snaked a hose connected to a funnel down from the top to actually put the fluid in. I don't think there was much space to get a wrench in there, however.

I know on third gen it's pretty much impossible. I'll leave a light on under the car, so I've got some idea where I'm going, then from above start snaking 3 feet of hose down in the direction of the light. It's very crowded: you push the hose through, then go back underneath, and with luck it's emerged near the transaxle fill hole.

Sadly the physical demands have been a little too much is recent years.
