    Sounds like a troll.

Changed my 06's OEM 12 volt to an Optima Yellow Top in Feb 2011, while I was living in WA state.

Yep. Who else would join a forum and talk crap with there very first post. He forgot to add it creates more pollution to build than a Hummer. :ROFLMAO:

Amazing after all these years and year in year out Prius is car of the year and they can't stand it.
    Won't let it go.

Yeah I always trade my cars when the 12V battery goes flat. It's pretty much impossible to get a new 12 battery these day. OR NOT!

Either a troll or just mighty clueless!

Why did you have to inject politics. That is totally offensive to me. Why would Romney blame the Prius? And I suppose all conservatives hate the Prius huh? And this troll was a conservative?

    Stereotyping is offensive!

I think the Prius has issues in cold climates. I live in Maine, and I've noticed strange behaviors with mine. If it gets cold, I sometimes get warning lights, but goes away when it warms up. Also, my fuel gauge is not accurate in cold weather. Plus, this car is not made for snow, too low clearance, but luckily I have my Dodge Pickup for that.

Got it back from Toyota, they charged me $300 to run diagnostics (they said $100/hour and they couldn't find the problem) finally they called and said the inverter and computer were fried and it will cost over $5,000 to fix.... Don't have the money so its back home :-(

It's really too bad there's not some insurance, a fuse or something, to insure against such catostrophic damage from hooking up jumper cables the wrong way.

Coupled with all the "courtesy" lights, low capacity 12 volt battery, lack of a comprehensive system to stop inadvertant battery drain.

    Nikki,

Where do you live? There are several independent shops around the country that will repair a Prius using salvaged parts at a much lower cost.

What inadvertent drain are you referring to? Someone left the lights on? Not much a car manu can do about stupidity. Like all the people who have run out of gas. Big blinking light...beeping for miles. Still run it empty.

    Exhibit A:
Ran out of fuel AND battery!! | PriusChat

I have owned my 07 almost 6 years. All on original 12 volt battery which I just replaced as it was getting low. Never needed a jump once. I don't believe there is any design problem.

I'm just thinking of a logic circuit:

If: The car is not in ready mode.

Then: either a delayed or instant cut-off of any battery drain.

For the stupid crowd Ed, not you ;)

Actually the last 3 cars that I've bought (starting in 1999) will shut things down after 45 minutes if a dome light, radio or headlamps have been left on.
It's a nice feature, and particularly relevant to a car like the Prius.
