Replaced 12v battery then did a bad thing

1. As ambient air temperature gets colder as winter approaches, I hope you recognize that the car will operate less efficiently.
2. Are you aware that you can reset the cumulative miles per gallon logged by the MFD, for a fresh start on measuring that parameter.

 

How is your combination meter? Is it’s function intermittent? Or was the car not shutting off caused by operator error?

There are many causes for low mpg, but has the car not completely turning off happened more than te one occasion?

 

if you are saying that it is showing 37 on the same tank after idling all night, that would be normal

This is off topic, but I just purchased a 2006 Prius and it’s giving me some issues. I know this isn’t my thread, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to start a new thread. Can someone help?

 

Reset the counter.

Otherwise, nothing.

You have burned that additional gas and there is nothing you can do to "get it back" so your long term average will suffer. But that really is meaningless under the circumstances.

 

Ok 2 things.

Your doing what everyone does that kills there 12 volt battery and or leaves the car running and that’s not arming the car alarm every single time u get out of the car. That will alert you a light on or the door or hatch ajar or the engine is still running. You can’t arm the car if those things exist. It just does a solid beep.

2nd thing is your car probably eats engine oil. Stay on that till you figure out how much. Check the oil first thing in the am before starting the car that’s the true oil level. Check it every few days till you see how much
Oil it eats. It would suck blowing the motor on your new car because you didn’t realize it eats oil bad.

If you are new to Prius, then just drive the care normally for a few tankfuls. Get used to it, get to know it and form new habits that fit this car like shutting it off. I can suggest that instead of pressing the "Park" button when you arrive at your destination, press the "On/Off" button. This will activate the parking mode and shut the car off in one action. You are probably already used to putting the car in "Park", so this way you will be parking and shutting it off at the same time.

As was suggested keep an eye on the oil level. Some of these cars use a lot of oil, some very little. Get to know your oil consumption and keep the oil at the acceptable level.

Figure out your MPG based on your fill ups, but also know that there is a fuel bladder in this car that will not always allow you to fill the tank completely. This means you will need to average your MPG results over several tankfuls. The displayed MPG on the screen is an approximation. Sometimes it's close to reality and sometimes it's not.

In general this car will have much better fuel economy in the summer than winter. By as much as 10%-15%. It will take a full year driving in all seasons to decide what the fuel economy really is. My 2007 averages about 45mpg year round. I have bought it in July 2017 and have been logging every fill up on Fuelly.com. In the summer I get closer to 50mpg and in the winter closer to 40mpg.

Just lock the car either with your fob or with the square black button on the outside door handle. If everything is off and all doors are closed the car will lock and blink the turn signals and give a short beep and all dome lights will go out. If the car is still running or doors are not fully closed or your fob is still inside, it will not lock and will give a long beep. It's a good habit to get into to lock (and set the alarm) when you leave the car. If you get a successful lockup it means your car is off and all doors are tightly closed and your key is not inside the car.

 

Why is it important that it says 44 mpg? It would work it’s way over time back to that point

 

You could reset the mpg counter and start over..?
