I replaced the head unit in my Gen3 and now my car won't start. I get several warning lights including a steering wheel light and a battery.

I opted not to do steering wheel controls.

Could the battery being detached triggered an anti-theft system?

Just for clarification do you own more than 1 Prius?
Your profile say's 2008 Prius, but you are saying Gen 3. A 2008 is Gen 2.

I don't have an answer. Not even sure where to start. You could try disconnecting the 12 volt and reconnecting to reset and seeing what happens.
But I'm hoping others have better suggestions.

If you left the doors open a long time without disconnecting the 12v battery, you've probably run it down. Recharge it.

Battery was flat. I do not know why I had to over complicate it I just charged the battery up and it started right up.

Just a Walmart Dual brand touch screen unit...nothing special.

In retrospect, the reason why I didn't immediately think about the battery was everything seemed normal. Lights came on, fob worked, could lock and unlock from inside the house, etc.

Seriously! The $40 one from wal-mart is leaps and bounds better than the $2500 one on the high trim version of the old Prius at this point. Post up and bask in the glory.

For some of us, it's not the brand but the craftsmanship that counts.
