I think Florida has always had just the 100K warranty on the Hybrid system. Purchased from the same dealer that sold it new & it had all the service records from the same dealer. This was marked as "No Warranty" at the dealer - but I went ahead anyway - & probably would do it the same if I was in the same position.

Ok I just googled a few other threads on this topic and you're right. Florida has always been just the standard 8yr/100k warranty.

Seems very unusual to have a 2010 battery fail. It may have just lost some capacity but should be good for quite a few more years

I'll be more than happy to swap the battery with any other G3 battery that is current in service, yours included.

this is what i used to believe before hooking up OBD2 during a hwy trip and monitoring HV amps. it turns out HV battery is in use all the time at hwy speeds to balance the constant fluctuations between MG1 and MG2.

in your case you also have high ambient temps killing it.

^^^ huh. That explains why the BT2 battery temp I monitor with my Scangauge II slowly increases even at a constant highway cruise speed in winter. When monitoring all 4 battery temps I found a wide fluctuation at one point that appeared to be the car balancing the HV battery, but that was very rare.

I have monitored the traction battery during high speed cruise. There is a small charge/discharge going on all the time, iirc it was a very low level of current, in the range of 1-3A at most, & these excursions were changing as fast or faster than once-a-second. Someone described it as a "dance" that the hybrid system does during cruise. I have found the most important thing is to realize that the Prius works _very_ hard to keep the traction battery at 60%SOC.
The Prius does _no_ balancing of the HV battery, under _any_ conditions. None.
Of the 4 battery temp measurements, one is the temperature of the air coming in from the vent on the right side of the back seat.
The other 3 are measuring the temps of three (out of 28) battery modules that make up the traction battery. TB1 is on the module closest to the fan (cooling air inlet), TB2 in on one of the center modules, & TB3 in on the battery module on the far end, away from the fan.
The airflow design within the traction battery assures all the battery modules receive similar air flow on both sides of their case.
The module closest to the fan may receive very slightly better airflow, but overall its just the center modules get hottest as they are surrounded by other hot modules, where the end modules have one cool side.

I'm starting to get the feeling Gen3 HV batt failure rates will be similar to Gen2 as they catch up in age.
Believe 2006's for example approaching 5% replacement.
But the great bulk of Prii sales were after 2006, so potentially lots of busniess for batt repair shops just due to numbers.
