Car and Driver magazine had an eyeopening piece on Hydrogen
Oct 2005 edition page 30 article by Patrick Bedard.
basically said that if we used coal to produce the hydrogen for a totally hydrogen powered vehicle base we have more pollution than that spewed out by all the vehicles anyhow. So until the entire grid is powered by Nukes were further ahead with gasoline. This doesn't include the supply side of hydrogen. I'll be long dead and gone before hydrogen ever amounts to more than smelly air coming from GM, Ballard, Ford, Toyota or Honda's PR departements. The average fuel cell time before failure is still under 2000 hours and try starting one when it's -20, if hybrirds are nothing in GM's eyes at least they start when it's cold outside.
And yes this article appeared origionally in the fall of 2004 and was debated here on PC at that time.

 

For those providing sales figures, do keep in mind that GM still sells a TON of vehicles in the US. Here are GM's and Toyota's figures for December 05.

GM sold 4.5 million vehicles in the US last year. Toyota is the top selling import and it hit 2.2 million. The Camry is the top selling passenger car in the US but not the top selling vehicle in the US. The top selling vehicle in the US for ages has been the Ford F series truck. Last year Ford sold 901K F series trucks vs. Toyota selling 431K Camrys.
