The beep may not be able to be turned off completely, because it's mandatory in Japan. All Prii are built on the same line in Tsutsumi, Japan.

No - it'll go from eternal beeping to just one beep.

Perhaps it's different in Australia, but on the default setting mine quit beeping when it was taken out of Reverse. ;)

Considering it's just those few seconds when I'm in reverse, I can't get too lathered up about the beeping in reverse. What does bug me though:

I don't think it's effective, at it's purpose, which is to alert you that you're in reverse, an alert made necessary by the cutesy return-to-centre electronic shifter. For me it's "the boy who cried wolf": the steady beep is ineffectual, does not directly register in my brain as "you're in reverse", and more than once I've just caught myself, started to give gas and realized I was not going in the direction I expected to go...

@Prodigyplace - hmmm - for a better word - I thought "incessant" might be better - but GOOGLE says is endless too. Maybe I need to invent a word.

I guess it depends on how long your driveway is - I've got a few long ones which I reverse in or out of - I'm glad it doesn't go the whole time. Life has too many beeps.

hmm - I would definitely be interested in this - I assume the one beep is that "initial beep" and that's it? for those who have done it, is 1 beep enough of a reminder you are in reverse? I do get its safety benefit and what I really want is to lower the volume (like the OP) and to increase the delay between beeps!

Even the continuous beeping has not always been effective for me.

The dealer changed mine to single beep before I took delivery as part of their PDI.

I have never not known what gear I am in as an always double check the display before moving off.
