Ran out of time was the biggest thing. Must of been too humid to dry right. Started seeing orange peel, splotches, and wrinkles. Tried sanding but made it worse since the paint wasn't hardened. Tried quick fix of adding more paint to the now more messed up sections. It started to run. So I just let it dry. It was getting late and I needed the spoiler back on so I can have the brake light for the drive into work. Decided to add some art. Why not, it may look better than the runny spots I thought. caused runs. Trunk issues Passenger seat still not being used. All back together. Kept the bolts safely loose. So freshly painted parts don't rub as hard. In a week or so it should be cured. Then I can take a power sander to it and try again.
REDO... So it is a bad idea to use spray paint over plasti dip. My spoiler started cracking which turned into a different fiberglass project. My roof has cracking paint and some hail damage (unrelated to the cracks). Decided to claim the hail on my insurance and would cost me $1000 deductible to repair the hail dents. AAA estimated the damage at $1209, said I could get more if it needs a repaint as being worked on. They would have to reinspect it. Doubting they would give me any more for repainting after seeing it's just spray paint.Told them I'm not going to fix it They gave me a check for $209 anyway. Just got a HVLP spray gun for a different project and think I'm ready to sand, strip, attempt to hammer out dents by removing the headliner, bondo where needed then repaint. Pulling headliner this weekend.
Pulled headliner and hammered out some dents. Here is the cracking and paint issues. Need to find some car paint and primer then start sanding.
Decided to chemically strip the roof. DAY 1 Started to eat through the factory paint, oh well. DAY 2 Distracted by a skink lizard Almost cleaned off. About 3 bags worth of paint came off. Taping off the areas. Distracted by frogs Primed Distracted by a toad. Roof antenna if you were wondering whats inside. Had to disconnect by taking down the headliner.
DAY 3 My first mask of the day. It's not the best paint job but it's way better than what it was. Fixed a few more dents while I was at it. In your face AAA who said it would cost $1230 to fix the roof dents and only gave me $230. Took that money and fixed it myself with hammers and spray paint! Haha to Macco who quoted me $1100 to fix dents and reapaint after I strip the roof. You're crazy body shop who told me $3000 to fix the dents and repaint the roof after I did the labor of stripping it. Keeping the antenna and wiper sprayer off for a week until the paint cures more so no imprints are made.
