    hi

I am going to travel from San diego to Houston, I plan to hook Generic Roof Rack to hook up

Do you guys know what good Roof Rack should I use?

about the Hitch, I am going to use the U Haul one with 1 1/4 inches, hook to 2 inches so I can hook to
    Stowaway Cargo Carrier

    stowaway2.com

It make from Plastic but very good and it weight only 30bls and can hold 12.5 cubic/feet.

Do you guys thinks it safe to doing that?? 2900 miles round trip just want to be safe, any feedback welcome.

    Thanks all.

I have an xcargo box and I'm happy with it, but we use it on my wife's car so I can not recommend a rack.

As for a hitch - I have a hidden hitch model that I bought from etrailer.com. It is a pretty easy DIY project. I'd recommend a 2 inch hitch though. That is the standard and I have found it both hard and expensive to find accessories that fit a 1.25 inch hitch.

Did you look into other cargo boxes from Thule or Yakima for the roof? There are more aerodynamic boxes available. But, they cost a lot more than the sears one.

Was flying down there and renting a minivan and driving back not an option. You would probably get better MPG and less wear and tear on your Prius. Also, the wife and kids would probably be more comfortable.

    hi all

just got back from Houston, the trip back with wife and 2 kids, 4 people about 500 lbs, and about 250lbs for cloths and everything else, why I got better mileage than when it empty, it must be the tail wind :)
