Yes, in two stages. When I turn the headlights on it dims slightly whether it's dark out or not. After it gets dark out, it goes to night time mode. You can select the night time mode, I am using the typical dark screen with light roads option. Does anyone know how it is sensing outside light levels?
I've found that is not entirely true. The map (nav) change color based on the GPS time, but the screen does not dim (in nav or media mode). You can manually dim the screen by pressing the power button once.
My screen does dim slightly mid day when I turn the headlights on. YMMV. It doesn't dim much though and it doesn't go to night time mode unless it's dark out. The night mode being tied to time is interesting. Did you figure that out from observation or info from Rosen?
If I hit the volume button once it dims, if I hit it a second time it blanks the screen but music still play's. The fact that I can't adjust the screen brightness is the only thing I dislike about the Rosen.
I recently drove through a tunnel during mid day with my headlights off and the Rosen went to night mode with the reversed night time lighting, then switched back to daytime colors when I exited the tunnel. There is more than GPS time at work there.
I drove through the same tunnel twice again today, first time through I noticed the display went to night mode a couple hundred feet before I entered the tunnel and back to day after I had been out in the light a couple hundred feet. On my second trip through the tunnel, I noticed the road was tinted more towards grey in the display on the section of road that the display dimmed on. Looks like at least some tunnels are in the data base and it knows to go to night mode based on location. Another puzzle solved.
Has anybody tried the sd card slot. I just tried with loaded mp3 files. I see it playing but no sound. Can change files but still no sound.
My SD card slot works. I put a card in with some MP3 files. It numbers the files, but no names show. I can advance through the files one at a time to the one I want once I learn which file is which number, but it loses it's place in the file if I turn power off and restarts the same file at the beginning when I power up the car next time. Are you selecting CD to get it to play? I believe that is a necessary step.
I just got and installed this radio, I was wondering if someone can tell me where I could put the GPS receiver. Right now it's magnetized on the side of the radio and it's been giving me a horrible reception. Thanks!
The upper side of HU will work better. I used the left tweeter location for the GPS antenna placement with wonderful reception and quick GPS position fix. See my picture gallery from the install.
Thanks!!! Now I got it to work another problem shows up. The voice on the navigation software is too low... and if you're on the freeway, you couldn't hear anything! plus if you are playing music, the front speakers gets muted and the rear still keeps playing music while the navigation voice plays. Is there any solution to this?
It depends on what NAV software you are using? If it is iGo8, you can edit/add sys.txt lines (in SD card's navigation directory): [sound] sound_volume="xx" xx is between 1-100 voice_volume="xx" xx is between 0-255 Just for the sure, backup the original sys.txt to sys.bak before playing with config file.
I think mine came with a newer navigation software that doesn't look stock. Primo North America. Is there anyway I could download a copy of the igo8 for the Rosen?
I ran iGO8 and Primo. The sys.txt values are working for both. They are from the same pit (NNG Hungary).
