Wife took in our 2007 Prius for the HV water pump recall and was told we needed to replace the engine water pump as well at 70K. We have about that now on it. Dealer said it was routine and depends somewhat on how vehicle is driven. Sounds like bull*()^ to me.

Anyone else have this experience or need the engine water pump routinely replaced.

It's certainly possible that the engine coolant pump needs to be replaced at 70K miles. I suggest that you look for yourself: ask for the car to be raised up on the hydraulic lift, and then ask to be shown where the coolant is leaking. Typically you will see a pinkish or whitish stain coming from the coolant bearing.

If you don't see a coolant stain then there is no need to replace the engine coolant pump.

It may be time to find another dealer to service your Prius.
