I took me a little time to get the ground hog day reference ha. Did not mean to repeat myself, on my phone, I only see a portion of the discussion and can't tell if my question has been answered, so I ask again.
I checked with the dealer and they said 634.00 dollars to fix a wheel bearing and hub.. wow .
They will do a road test for free so that may help to narrow it down
In the meantime I will get a tire rotation at wheelworks and have them inspect the tires

Thanks you guys your feedback is very much appreciated

Approx. $480.00 parts and labor at a Toyota dealership. Just had the right rear bearing replaced on my 2010 with 83k miles.

My local dealer in Walnut Creek sells bearing and hub for 296.06
A local parts store has it for 193.95 from Temkin
I wonder what after market product is reliable?
Raytheeagle you are in California who does your work?

I put a Dura hub on my Prius.
I paid $56 for it via Amazon prime.
Is it the best? Probably not.
Is my car rolling like it did before?
    Yes.

I had a bear of a time getting the old one off though. Went through about 1/3 a canister of MAPP gas, and I think my 9 year old son learned some new cuss words

I do most of my own:). I am in Fairfield, so not too far north of you;). Has your Prius lived most of its life in the east bay and Northern California? If so, there should be little rust to worry about so it should separate easy.

Some options in the Bay Area I would consider if I were to go to a shop to handle this (or at least call to get quotes):

    1) Arts automotive in Berkeley
    2) Luscious Garage in San Francisco
    3) haven't heard much about Toyota Walnut Creek (I buy my parts at Momentum Toyota in Fairfield as it is 5 minutes from my house) and if I do any services at a dealer, I use Toyota Vallejo (they have Sunday $10 off of any service over $30)
    4) call other dealers in the area and get quotes (there are plenty and I would call any and all of them).

Dealers I steer clear of for services: 1) Toyota Vacaville (they cracked a valve cover on our 98 4Runner and I had to find it before I left the dealership)
    2) Momentum Toyota in Fairfield (they charged me for a days rental car when they under billed a rear axle seal replacement on the 4Runner).
    3) Antioch Toyota (a couple bad experiences by coworkers who live nearby)

Get the tires rotated. If it is the wheel bearing, you have some time. Get as much info as you can to make the best fiscal decision you can.

I have not done a wheel bearing on a Prius before, but there are you tube videos out there. If you are hard up and the bearing gets worse, maybe I could assist ;). I am cheap (I think that's why the wife likes me so much :)).

    Keep us posted(y).

I know Arts in Berkeley and respect them they would be my first choice if the price was not to high for me
I can call some of the others you mentioned
My Prius has lived in Florida and the Bay area.
I might take you up on your offer if you are serious and available
I like to do my own repairs and if someone were willing and had the tools it would make it easier. If you could PM me your phone number I can keep it in my phone
But lets see first if a tire rotation will fix it

Doing a quick look on Rock Auto, there are some pretty good deals on assembly's (I saw a Moog for $123 before shipping). Can probably get a decent deal on one locally at Federated or Napa, but I didn't look there yet;).

Do the tire rotation and keep me posted.

What tools or set-up do you have? You have tools, or would you need some? Got a garage to work in?Pretty sure I have everything required to do the job. Will watch some you tube videos to make sure though. And I have a 2 car garage, if needed.

Will PM you my contact info soon(y).

if the oem only lasted 57,000 in nice climates, i would buy the cheapest one i could get.

Well the cheapest is a Dura International at $60 for the rear, but never heard of them.

The interesting thing is I am in the same climate now(have been in KS and VA where it snows and the roads leave something to be desired) and I am on the original wheel bearings and still going strong at 146 k miles.

Mine must have been built on a Tuesday through Thursday at the hub assembly plan I guess:rolleyes:

seems like there might have been some defects, because plenty of people in the rust belt get well over 100k.

Hopefully, otherwise the amount of rust and frustration that would ensue might boil over;).

But that's why there's a bar on every corner out your way:).
