He took Joe Pyne's on AM radio style to US national and won hearts and minds and sponsors, better than any had done before or have done since.

He said "with talent on loan from God" and "with half my brain tied behind my back" as humor. Idiot lefties just could not see the joke.

He made many insults seem as if they were OK to say. He lost some sponsors, but held his money thing together. I must say that I am impressed.

His rarely faltering led to 2020 Feb award of Medal of Freedom from P45. Why that did not happen earlier is unclear.

Now R Limbaugh has died. It might not be that his media descendants have 'his thing' dialed in, but it's not for me to say. It can only be said that a lot of disgruntled White Nationalist oomph persists in America. It can be monetized (Alex Jones style) or it can just descend to weaponized 'we don't like things as they are now', which makes much more work for law & order folks.

R Limbaugh did and monetized this thing at a scale never done before. It is not obvious that his descendants can continue. But that is what we all will see. Whether or not they do, R Limbaugh did it first.

    Easy.
    The "Medal of Honor"....isn't.
It's the CONGRESSIONAL Medal Of Honor, and whether you "like" the recipient, or even whether or not the recipient was a "good person" isn't at issue.
It's OUR Medal, but the laws says that Congress Critters decide who gets it and who don't.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is pretty much the same thing.....only it's awarded by, and presented by the POTUS.
    Period.
    Full Stop.

    See also:
    Nobel Peace Prize.
    Time's Person(s) of the year.

BEINIG a POTUS thing, it was established by an EO, which says that this award is to be made for..."An especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."

This covers a lot of acreage, and sometimes all you have to do to be awarded that medal is be a pretty good football coach...or singer. :D
Presidents often award each other the medal......and I'm thinking that P45 might get stiffed.

HOWEVER (comma!) Like many things...."merit" is determined by the person MAKING the award.

You can get it more than once.
    Two people have.
Colin Powell did...as did Ellsworth Bunker.
    Yep.
I had to look it up too.

You can be upgraded to getting the award "with distinction" and while one of Secretary Powell's medals was awarded "with distinction" Mr Ellsworth has the distinction of having both of his awards made "with distinction."
You get a bigger medal and you get to wear a purple sash at white collar dinners.

I'm thinking that whether you like the dude or do not....Mr Limbaugh drew enough water to to be a net contributor to at least one of the items listed in the EO........
    ....maybe not World Peace. ;)

The LAT bleated that P45 "cheapened the award."

They've OBVIOUSLY not canvased the list of recipients.

Maybe that is because it was NOT intended as a joke.
He had something bestowed upon him by a "deity" but I think he was mistaken about which one it was.

I have vivid memories of him during the Clinton years. He would open the program with, " this is the 179th day of captivity".
So what goes around comes around but enough is enough. I thought it was stupid to impeach Clinton for liking women so much he had them under his desk.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Of course he lied about it. He was backed into a corner and couldn't get out. Dig up all the presidents that did something wrong and retry them again. NOT!
Former president was payback time by the opposing party and way over done.
His problem was he was not a politician and lived by different rules. Never politically correct Ever!
Now it is back to same O same O.
    :ROFLMAO:

I see this type of stuff littered all over the net

Rush Died | Bob Is The Oil Guy

I would argue his style has existed on Radio in various forms since the 1920’s perhaps he is best at monetization

His type of program certainly existed during the golden age of radio, but what people tend to forget is during the 70s and early 80's AM-JAM had deteriorated nearly to the point of extinction.
Everybody was listening to music and morning drive talk on the FM band, and non-print "news" consisted of the same bleak, colorless monotone set of massaged "facts" on all 4 networks...three commercial and one government funded.
One of the mainstays of long-haul AM broadcasting used to be baseball, but that was supplanted by TV (aided by "superstations" like WGN and TBS.)
Long-haul truckers of the 70s and early 80's suffered from a dearth of programming that was limited to scratchy music and muzzled small-fry local talk on 50,000 watt stations.

    Then?
The so-called "fairness" doctrine was eliminated and this quirky, bombastic, funny-as-H dude came along and amassed 25 million listeners, and suddenly AM Talk became so feared and loathed by leftists that they tried to resuscitate the "fairness"[sic] doctrine.
    FCC fairness doctrine - Wikipedia
They tried going after his sponsors.
    They called him names.
They even tried to beat him at his own game. A few hundred former listeners may recall "Air America" (to which I was an ardent listener.)
As it turns out....leftists at the time just were not that entertaining.
In fact....they're still kinda buzz-kills except for certain comic-newsies on paid TV and network late night hosts.

Love him or hate him....you cannot say that he wasn't talented, nor can one suppose that he did not start a fundamental shift in the way people are "exposed" to news and politics.
Well done! Others would have used Chuck Coughlin, excised by FDR during Dubbaya-Dubbaya Twice.
The principle difference between Limbaugh and Pyne is that that most of his callers were fans.
I do not think he had guests on very often, and most of his combativeness was used as counter-culture, something that (like free speech and anti-establishment) USED to be defended by real liberals.
Another difference is that Coughlin used existing "main-stream" media (print and radio) where Limbaugh took a discarded media and did something that people of the day said would never work... ;)

    It confirms no such thing.
That statement assumes at least two things, both of which are wrong.
