Rust on Inside of Airbag on 2011 Prius! Suggestions?

    I just pulled my airbag off to replace the spiral cable and noticed this rust on the back of the airbag. Is this just a plate that I can pull off and clean? The rust seems to be light. Should this happen to a 2011 gen 3 or any airbag? I called the dealer and they want to charge me a diag fee to look at it. What should I do? Suggestions?

    That's light, and if it were on mine, I wouldn't worry about it. It appears to be cosmetic, and unlikely to affect function.

    Is it ok to take off the plate and clean it? Should I leave it alone?

    Let us know if you see corrosion in the spiral cable assembly as well.

    I'm beginning to think that someone was spraying cleaner or something on the wheel and got some liquid in there.

    If you clean it off let us know if you survive. ;)

    -I- might spray some paint on it but I would -NEVER- try to clean it. It's a bomb, you know that, right?
