it's not my decision, but there's a 10 person limit in ma, and they have all been together through the process anyway.
we'll do a celebration of her life when more of us can get together

EVERY Governor has police power authority to create martial law. THAT hasn't been done. Stopped at the local Starbuck$ today. Dropped off a FedEX pack too. Then off to a church group (12 people OMG!!!) where we packed food bags for homeless & stuff for military / Camp Pendelton marine base.
So .... what's truly inexplicable .... the notion that the malaria drug needs WAY soooo much more testing. Really? So ... it's been on the market for decades - and safe dosing is established for its sundry uses ... and the person in charge says "more testing" ?? What do you want a bet if HIS grandma was infected - he'd be dosing yesterday. Often, so called experts (whether scientists, physicians etc) are like savants ... they know a whole lot about one thing - but they act foolish in many other things ... including yours truly. I might be licensed to practice law - but some of the words i bombard my better half with are like i'm trying to get my self killed
    ;)

    Just to add to this...
It is OK to go out for a walk or a hike...just not in groups and keep your distance. You can walk your dog, too.

I saw a guy roller blading a while ago. I decided not to report him. :)

I would speculate a lot of people have already survived the infection...and never knew they had it.

That isn't really a speculation when the medical people have already said as much. Numerous folks have very mild symptoms indistinguishable from lesser illnesses, and a certain fraction never display any symptoms. Those are part of why it is spreading so rapidly in the wild.

But for another fraction, it is very severe. Italy, with 1/5th our population, had over 600 deaths today. Spain, with 1/7th our population, had over 250 deaths today. Both have overloaded hospitals.

In our local nursing home where the nation's deaths started, the normal resident death rate is 4% - 7% per month. This disease killed 1/3rd of its residents in just 3 weeks. A few hospitals here are running into staff and space and supply shortages, and a few hospitals in NYC are already overloaded.

I had an abscessed tooth under a crown just b4 our dentist closed. Guess folks are just S.O.L. until whenever.
So! eventually this shall pass. Then what ... the next flu strain gets a nifty unique name - & (presuming the economic world hasn't totally collapsed so that it can eventually come back) & we do it all over again?

    Chloroquin@882

This anti-malarial, remdesivir (developed for Ebola), and losartan (treats high blood pressure) are all being tested at U Minnesota:

Chloroquin was concluded to be effective earlier in China

IMO, clinical trials are appropriate and (I understand) necessary before they can be ruled as 'safe and effective' for general public. An FDA thing?

However, were I a medical staff treating positives and suspected positives in a hospital setting, I would self prescribe one. Maybe all 3.

Having previously taken chloroquin while in a malaria zone, I know what to expect from it.

I looked up side effects, not that pleasant. Would that be exceptional cases?

Back in post #855, I reported on experience with IV vitamin C. It works in China, but apparently is unmentionable in the US. It obviously doesn't work in Italy - but then you have to actually use it. Experience in China - zero deaths among those who got IVC. And shorter hospital stays. But then it isn't "proven" because it's too cheap. Proof requires big money, and natural cheap treatments don't get that kind of money. Obviously feeding the money process is more important than saving lives.

Side effects and their incidence would be as presented by primary medical sources. I have nothing to add beyond personal anecdote.

This can be known for both chloroquine and losartan. Less so for remdesivir I suppose.

There are countries where medications flow more freely than USA. With a very large fraction of human population confronting this bad boy, I suspect that all 3 are currently being used 'off label'. Meaning for other than their recognized therapeutic roles.

    ==
If you take chloroquine and go to a malarial region, you are deferred from (US) blood donating for a year after. Perhaps that would not happen in this situation. Most would probably not weigh that aspect heavily I guess?

But it's worth mentioning that global blood donations (therefore supplies) are heavily impacted now.

I'm not dissuading any from considering vitamin C by IV. Posted a link or two for those interested. It is not unmentionable.
