Many years have pasted since the first intermittent headlight issues (flickering/left side goes out/right side goes out/both go out) have been posted on this site alone. Most are able to quickly turn off the light switch then back on to re-establish proper light functions for a while, till the next time. There are hundreds of complaints to the NHTSA about these headlight issues. I suggest all who have had an issue with these headlights take a few minutes to relate their problems to the NHTSA's website. A recall is in order for such an outrageous problem.

The only way to force Toyota to take responsibility for this is to act by publishing your complaints to the NHTSA.

Its an outrage that Toyota's loyalty is primarily with the dealers and not as much with its customers.

In Reflection: In 1990, Toyota debuted the three overlapping Ellipses logo on American vehicles. The Toyota Ellipses symbolize the unification of the hearts of our customers and the heart of Toyota products. The background space represents Toyota's technological advancement and the boundless opportunities ahead.

Headlights should function properly no matter what your model or package. Its up to you to file your complaint.

Strange indeed! I always thought the symbol was a Mexican Sombrero.

Had the problem on my Gen-II. Changed the bulb. Problem solved. Carrying a spare in the glove box.

Off-On reboot to re-light bulb is better than completely out the first time and forever. At least it gives you a warning that it is going bad.

I had that random on/off flickering problem a couple of years ago on my Gen2 2006, out of warranty (of course). The dealer replaced the HID bulbs free of charge.

I was wondering why I've noticed so many 2nd gen Prius's with only one headlight working.

Toyota washed their hands of this years ago.

"Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over headlights in its 2006 to 2009 Prius hybrids that shut off without warning, triggering at least 2,500 complaints from motorists.

Under the terms of the settlement, eligible Prius owners will be reimbursed for their costs to fix failing headlight systems. They will also get their warranties for headlight problems extended to five years or 50,000 miles, rather than the standard three years or 36,000 miles."
