    That is not correct. Except in frontier environments women have had a longer life span than men for a very long time. People just didn't get a divorce until the latter half of the 20th cent, partly because the law said all of woman's property became the mans' when they got married, but mainly because women didn't have alot of choices economicaly. Now women are working and having their own life independently of support so why stay around when you don't have to.

    At the time when people's life span was so short that they averaged 1-10 years of marriage we still were using bronze tools. The mortality was not with the mother but with the children. Half didn't pass their 5th birthday.
