Should I bother with the 5k service?

Most dealers will have you in and out in 30 minutes for a 5K, particularly one with no oil change. Most will have free wifi, and many have a cafe on the premises. You will often get a free car wash and charge out of it too. I guess I'm in a unique position, having worked at a dealer, and knowing which mechanic to ask for.

the 3G on my phone is faster than my home's wifi connection, our dealer has no cafe and even if they did i doubt it will be very high quality (I mean, i'm saying my time is worth something…which probably means i also don't need "freebies" because their value is pennies), and the dealer here doesn't have a car wash. besides, again, i'd rather wash my own car myself, making sure it is actually clean when it comes out and i can make note of any scratches/dings/dents along the way too.

I don't drive mine in the winter because they put lots of salt on the roads and I will not put my baby in that.

Hah, good call. If you were not 6 hours away I would just say swing by.

Never hurts to have a jack and atleast 2 jackstands in your garage. most places like sears (craftsman) usually have a kit that comes with a decent jack and 2 stands.

That and just a quality 13/16 or 21mm 6 point deep socket (1/2 inch drive) with a good 1/2 inch drive breaker bar. Tq wrench prefered but probably getting a bit excessive if all you want to do is rotate tires...

I also use a torque wrench on my lugs :) Some service guys will tell you they use torque sticks but I can never get over the use of a impact gun around a set of nice wheels :( A breaker bar with a nice socket and a nice torque wrench is my only method ;)

Me too. I have two floor jacks, so no need for a jack stand. Takes about a half hour with pressure check and adding air, and torquing the lug nuts by hand.

glad my dealer disabled the unbearable reverse beep at 5k (free). considering how busy toyota dealer service centers are here in norcal, i doubt they like toyotacare, since they could be making more on a regular un-comped service. toyotacare should just have a 10k and 25k.

Yeah there is no reason to use an impact gun on recessed lug nut rims except out of pure laziness.

Just over 30 minutes for the 5k and they include a car wash with all service so that was nice.
