At my dealer for 90,000 mile service. I ask for a CVT (transmission) oil change and they told me they don’t do it and don’t recommend it be done. What do you think?

    You mean transmission fluid? Sure.

It is technically not part of the Toyota maintenance schedule (there's no mention of it in the service schedule) but it's generally good preventative maintenance. The transmission is covered by the 5 years/60,000 mile powertrain warranty so it's already out of warranty.

Dealerships are warranty specialists and your car is too old for that type of service unless you like watching your bank account empty out for invalid reasons. Instead find a legit mechanic or family or friend member that's not going to scam you like Toyota Stealership's do.

Trans fluid being good for the life of the car is what Toyota says because they'd rather sell you a new car than you keeping your existing one for as long as possible. Here at PriusChat we had a lab study trans fluid from Prius and found there's a measurable benefit in replacing it at least once. Mostly because brand new engines & transmissions in their first 1000 miles shed metal particles that they don't shed once everything is broken in. So getting those particles out of your lubricant has long term benefits.

When you drain it and change it you will see why you needed to do that look at the colors of the two fluids in a clear beaker before and after whatever or what comes out and what's going in let's say that way. You will clearly see why this is a good idea at any kind of mileage especially the first time The first time it should be done at like 60,000 or something so any bits and pieces that have sheared loose during the normal breaking of the transmission can be drained out gotten out whatever going to come out with the oil all of that and then fresh goes in that load you might leave in till 250,000 maybe I wouldn't but it's been done

Based on recommendations here, I drain and fill with Toyota brand fluid every 50K. Cheap insurance. Yeah, most vehicles never need transmission fluid changed, but it’s simple enough to do.

What you don’t want to do is use a flushing agent. Just drain the worn fluid and put in fresh fluid.
