Hi - I replied to a couple of specific posts but have had no response so I'm trying a different tack. Had a Curt 1.25 reciever hitch installed yesterday and then installed a Yakima Hold Up 1.25 on it. I have 2011 Prius and did a bunch of research to learn if I could get a Class 2 hitch. No. Yakima tech stated the Hold Up requires a Class 2 and they know of NO ONE who has EVER installed a Holdup on their Prius. Since the 2 bikes that will be carried on the back of the Prius are light I'm hoping to get away with this minor breaking of the rules but I do understand the laws of Physics are somewhat rigid. I'd love to hear from someone who has installed the Hold Up on their Gen 3 Prius (I know you are out there...I've seen the pics!) (1) How is it going so far...is anything on your hitch bending or is your car buckling at all at the contact points of the hitch? (Did you actually find a Class 2?) (2) What do you carry - how many and how heavy (and why not throw in how often) (3) Did you do any modifications to the hitch or to your Prius related to the hitch install to enable it to carry more weight? I really appreciate any input/advice/comments you have! Thank you

    I AM "NO ONE".. :ROFLMAO:

Download the install instruction for the hitch receiver to get better detail on mounting points. It uses the tow hook mounting locations. A lot of Class 1 hitches don't use mount points as strong as this one. I take it Curt or whatever manufacturer you buy did their homework. From my expereince, I think it's more than sufficient.

replied to other thread as well.. ride safe and keep the rubber side down!

Installed the Curt 1 1/4 hitch yesterday and threw on the yakima hold up. Drove to some trails and it handled great. So easy to load and unload. And better mpg then roof racks. [IMG]

Looks cool but I will use both more often then not. Girlfriend rides. I'm very happy with this setup though.

I have another car to haul more bikes if needed.. I just don't find the Prius powerful enough to get up the hills.

BTW, how you like the Stumpy 29er? Which model is that? I'm just window shopping right now..

Hey SaintJude, now that you've had the Kuat for a while, how is it working out? I have a Thule Helium 970 that the bikes hang from and because of the way they hang, I'm trying to sell the Thule and replace it with a Kuat NV.

May I ask what type of covering or coating you have on your hood ? Does it protect well?

Did you have any issues getting the whispbars installed level? I'm thinking about getting them, but with the roof line of the Prius I'm concerned the back rack may not be fully level with the front for my Skybox install.

Abra, Most of the manufactures say not to open the sunroof when there are racks on.

    That said.

    Anyone every heard/try this brand?

I have a Thule Box that usually goes on my Highlander, but I might need to put it on my Prius once or twice a year, and I'm looking for options. ($400 for a Thule is alot of money)

I wanted to post here for a while but couldn't until I got my hitch. Gearing up for a camping trip and cycling on a regular basis.

Thanks for showing the underneath mounting point as I might want to make something for storing extra luggage at rear and was not sure where to mount it.

No problem. Are you actually gonna fabricate your own hitch?

This bolted on where the tow hooks go. I had to cut two pieces from the under panel where the hitch pops out in order to reinstall the panel.
