Why do Teslas (model 3 at least) only make such noise in reverse?

All I could possibly add is that if anything untoward were to happen, you might not want this thread out where the lawyers can find it.

I believe they do, however I don't own a recent one so can't test.
I don't recall when the switch occurred to enable the pedestrian warning signal. I believe it was 2020 or 2021. So older Model 3s may not have the sound.

Just put a PA Speaker on the grill and play Mexican Music while driving in parking lots.

Btw, the law was based on a flawed study, and plenty of lobbying by anti ev groups

At least not to your car. Living things, not so much.

You have documented you intentionally disabled it making it easy for the personal injury lawyer to prove his case and win a multi-million dollar judgement. Your insurance company may decline to pay as well since you engaged in an illegal activity.

All of which along with purchase scams are condoned on Priuschat. At least the forum won't let you delete your comments and Google keeps cached copies.

I would actually do this. It's so annoying in this car. Moreso than other cars I have driven. I have been driving long enough that I know when I'm not wearing a seatbelt. I don't need this progressively more aggressive seatbelt indicator that's seemingly punishing me because I didn't clip it in right away.

OP I hear you man! But WOW, so much controversy. I guess this is what happens when younger folks start driving a car that has mostly been older people driving it. Two world colliding. I totally get both sides of the argument.

Bottom line is this.... some of us drive in very populated urban areas where there is a lot of pedestrians. Some of us drive 90% of the time in areas where there is no pedestrians, EVER. Why have a sound that's annoying 100% of the time when you rarely, if ever, are driving next to pedestrians.

But if it's a law... then it's a law... and this is probably why I won't disable it. I respect the OPs engineering prowess though.

First time I drove the car, I wondered what the noise was at low speed in EV mode. Thought I had a problem, but not this problem. Some noises the car allows you to turn off or lower, and when one of those noises is annoying I will turn it off (like the driver attention monitor). For this noise, I can not turn it off. So I turn on the radio, and it is pretty much solved. As for the outside, there are all kinds of noises outside that I don't like and can't control. Sorry if I am now contributing to them. And, for driving in rural areas, I think most times I will be at a speed that silences the noise anyway. And, for the seatbelts, I just clip it when I get in. Problem solved.

Does are pretty easy to disable as it's a setting in TIS/Carista

I know this is getting a bit off topic at this point, but is there a way to turn down the seatbelt ding volume? Most cars have this. Usually it's controlled by turning the radio volume down when the sound is dinging, but that didnt seem to work.

    It's soooo loud.

There’s a real simple way to turn off the seatbelt ding. ;)

Trust me, you're going to buckle your seatbelt in this new Prius. I've never heard a seatbelt ding this aggressive. The annoyance comes where you're just moving the car a short distance at low speeds(maybe from one part of a parking lot to another).

That being said, there are(or should be soon) multiple options to shut it off. Carista should have it once they get a gen5 to test. I know Dr. Prius could do it for the gen3, so hopefully it will also be able to do it for the gen5 eventually. A Toyota dealer can do it using TechStream, but I don't know if they'd be willing to do it for liability reasons. I probably won't turn it off myself, but I could see others doing it(especially delivery drivers that have tons of stops).
