    Hello family,

I'm looking for a smart phone holder/mount. Looks like these two have best ratings.
iOttie: Amazon.com: iOttie HLCRIO102 One Touch Windshield Dashboard Universal Car Mount Holder for iPhone 4S/5, Galaxy S4/S3/S2, HTC One DROID RAZR HD - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories
Mountek: Amazon.com: Mountek nGroove Universal CD Slot Mount for Cell Phones and GPS Devices: GPS & Navigation

I've seen many cases that the style sticking to window falls down much, so I am more inclined to the latter. Anyone have used in using Mountek? Where is the ideal place to mount this?

Any other recommendations for non-sticking-to-window style are welcome!

    Thanks a lot!

Have you tried standing it up in the slot on the dash just above the steering wheel? Just throw on some Velcro and it won't fall. Soft part of the velcro on the back of the phone and the more course stuff in the slot on the dash.

Not sure how tall the phone is so unless it's impeding your vision, that may be an option for a lot less money?

Ha, sounds smart. But my phone is Nokia Lumia 920 and it's bigger than iphone and quite heavy. I doubt a bit that Velcro wouldn't hold this up...?

Ha, I still run an older smart phone so it's on the smaller side o_O .

Well, when I used to run a radar detector in my car I would mount it in the far left corner of the windshield. It didn't block my site and is still legal. I believe anything mounted in the center dash or windshield is considered a violation of CA law, but I haven't looked it up lately. Not like they bust anyone for it anyways though. The only pain was having to tuck the wire behind the dash, but I would assume you won't be charging it from the mount much.

PS -- You'd be surprised how strong velcro is. I work with engineers so between duct tape and Velcro, all of life's toughest problems are solved. :p

Personally I don't like vent mount phone holders, because they block some of the air flow. I just bought my Pc2 yesterday and found the my Ram phone holder mounts perfectly to the little triangular window and it puts the phone within easy reach and is out of the way. Yes, it moves out with the door when the door opens but when I leave the car, so does my phone - not a big deal.

I went with the pro clip, but I have an iphone5. Puts the phone in perfect reach, not cheap though.

I bought this which has 3 options included (under $20) and I just use the vent mount one:

Amazon.com: iKross 3 in 1 Universal Compact Windshield / Dashboard / Air Vent Car Mount Holder for Cell Phone / MP3 Player / Smartphone: Cell Phones & Accessories

Some in this thread have said they don't like blocking any part of the vent, but I find this puts my phone (which is also my nav) in the perfect spot and does not run afoul of CA laws about devices blocking part of the driver's view. The vent mount is also very solid, and does not seem to be putting stress on the vent itself, but that depends on how you install it.

Reviving a bit of an old post: Delta Flyer II (or anyone else with the iOttie mount), any tips for getting the mount to stay in place underneath the center console? I haven't been having much luck getting it to stay attached for more than a few seconds.

I like to keep it simple. I put a silicone gel case on my phone and then put the whole thing over the MFD screen for the times that I need sat/nav. The gel case grips onto the screen and will not fall off.
