Toyota's Prius Team has posted the 3rd teaser image of the 2010 Prius over on CleanMPG today. Here is the image and their message:

I was first thinking it looked like a backup camera, but the "you won't find one of these on the current Prius" has thrown me off.

    Ideas? Discuss.

    CleanMPG

    Mod note:
It appears to be the night vision camera for the "Nightview" system that is found on the Crown Hybrid:

obviously a camera/sensor of some sort and if it's not on the current gen it's not a back-up cam.

I wonder about a front camera for one of those fancy cruise controls that adjusts to forward traffic.

Judging from the bezel around the lens area, it looks to be the kind of lens that focuses a strong lamp like a projector would. But the thing is from the metalwork around it and the color of plastic trim, my first thought is we're looking UP at it in the photograph, which would put it at knee level under the dash board. However, then I see a clip in front of it (near the bottom of the photo) that reminds me of the LATCH system for car seats for children. I would know that because I just installed a car seat :p

It's really hard to say what it is. HUD projector lamp is a reasonable guess, but where is it in the interior of the car, and why is it surrounded by the bisque colored plastic? Definitely not exterior, but again I'm confident we're looking up at it.

It could be a spotlight built into the hatch for loading things into the trunk in the dark.

That was my guess also when I first looked it the picture. It looks like it's in the inside and not outside of the cabin.

Perhaps the 2010 Prius will have a HAL-like onboard computer?

The first glass reflection seems to be from a speaker with circular holes.

The second layer lense reflection seems to be a mystery. It looks like a fabric.
