Actually, if you look at this picture although the color is grey ( I would assume it'd be tan with a tan interior) there is this kind of smooth plastic around the vent to the right of the glovebox, so maybe it is similar on the drivers side where these type of buttons/switches etc would be found? But I see what you mean, its not found at the top part of the dash... My bad...

That, undoubtedly, is what the picture is in the first post...great find.

The thing on the left (not the circled thing) is another shot from the previously linked page: Translated version of http://toyota.jp/crownhybrid/dynamism/finegraphicmeter/index.html

That said, if you look at the PDF posted earlier for the DENSO patent you'll see the images there also look like the HUD display.

Oh man...if the new Prius IS borrowing from the Crown....do you think we'll get the watch fob?! I would LOVE that.

It makes perfect sense now. Those honeycomb from the reflection are not from the speaker. They are from the "sunshade" dots on the windshield near the rear view mirror.

SPP#2 Open/Close toggle would be for the sunroof since they both have the same ivory plastic material.

Btw, the entire instrument cluster is digital. It's a giant screen.

I was thinking that it was Either a FLIR Camera for night use, or a Fingerprint sensor for use in starting the car. Wouldn't that be nice if instead of a key fob, you just put your pointer finger where the Start(Power) Button is, and the car says "Hi ___, How are you doing?"

Very cool, I can't see them using a HUD in the Prius when the speedo is right under your windscreen and at a focal length of about a metre or more anyway

I can see it being a lane departure system.. having a night vision view system would surely need the display to be infront of the driver like the Crown..

    Great find.

I thought at first that this was a type of safety info device but I thought that it was a 'droopy head or eye' sensor for the driver. But after the pics you found of the Crown hybrid I definitely think it is a nighttime driving assist that can be displayed on the MFD.

Ya me too. Wish the current Prius had a fob watch.

The other cool feature the crown has that I could see making it's way to the prius is the noise-cancelling stereo system.

And in a Gawd awful place. All that information and most of it is hidden behind your hands and the steering wheel. Even the buttons (night vision camera and brightness(I guess) plus whatever is on the left) are hidden back there where you can't easily see them. I don't know about the rest of you, but *I* don't drive with my elbows in my stomach like the person in the last picture.

    What happened to ergonomics??
    - I LIKE that I don't have to drop my eyes very far off the road to see the current Prius 'gauges'. It is SAFER and EASIER
    - I LIKE that I don't have to look through the steering wheel and my hands to see the 'gauges'. It is SAFER and EASIER
    - I LIKE that I don't have as much near/far focal change to see the 'gauges' AND they don't land in the lower 'reading' part of my multifocal lenses. It is SAFER and EASIER

Night vision would be good, I'd rather see the deer WAY earlier than "Just missed". And then there are the bicyclists that have no lights, talk about dangerous!

What happens to the Night Vision camera when there is a car coming toward you?
    - Is the visible light not 'seen' by the NV camera so you don't end up with a blinding white light?
    - Do you see the people in the other car?
