    On Costco.ca X Ice-x2i is $145.99 CDN plus $60 off plus $15 installtion charges
Any other pricing out there, it atleast 2.5 hr to get to the US so I think that is out of range
Thinking of putting them on the stock wheels and would like to get new 17" next summer
Have to shot an email to the dealer they said he would get me winter tires at their cost

I get about 150" of snow a year, not nearly as much as you I'm sure but I drove a 2005 Prius for 115,000 miles and without snow tires it was terrible because of the traction control. With studded snow tires I much prefer driving it over my 4Runner because of handling and the skid control. Not much clearance so if the snow gets deep its all over, but on icy, snow packed roads and anything under say 4" and studded snows my experience has been excellent. With Snows without the studs its not as good but still more than adequate.

Was by Costco today, priced out Michelin X-ice II P185 65R 15
installed balanced with taxes in Ontario $657.91CDN
    black steelies $189.79

    Total $847.70

Still need to decided if I want 17" for the summer

Was on tire rack much cheaper , and with the $CDN getting close to par, may be time order some from the States

I wonder if there should be a separate section, sticky for winter tires, and maybe a separate just for summer wheels & tires?

I had good experience with Michelin Alpins on my previous car; Now I bought Nokians RW on original Prius 16" alloy rims just yesterday. I am anxious to see how is my Pri going to perform at the snowy mountains - will probably try in two weeks or so :).

I hope you mean 195. The new Prius runs on 195, not 185.

The person at costco wrote down 185, I told them 195, maybe she just screwed up
    Still may order for US
In Ontario there a tax levey of $6.60 /tire for dispostal,
Does any one know if I order in for the US will I also be charge the the $6.50?

Nokia Wr II. A GREAT all season, with an aggressive tread, but with no gas mileage hit. It is the only tire I would put on a Prius in Snow country!

A bit spendy, but what is a $100 extra for four over the live of the tire?

    Icarus

We just drove across the northern tier and had much snow in N. Dakota. Temps right around freezing, the snow mixing with freezing rain, turning to a glazed mess. The Prius was glued to the road at 70 mph! I've driven it through 6" of dry cold snow and it was like a tank!

wouldn't the 17inch give you more height clearance vs the 15 inch in the snow?

The OD of the tire must be the same so the odometer and speedometer read correctly. No matter a 15, 16, 17, or even 20 inch wheel, the OD is the same.

A taller tire probably would rub in the fenderwells

I am thinking of getting 17” rims and 215/45R15 Michelin X-Ice Xi2 snow tires from Tire Rack. There are 15” rims on the car now.

Does 15” or 17” rims have any effect on how the car handles in the snow and ice?

I would keep the 15" for winter and get 17 for summer time
better to have more rubber between the potholes and wheels:D

What he said. You want more cushion from the potholes and frostheaves.

Price out the Michelin Xice 2 with shipping tax ets.
The total came to $606.70 US, instaltion will be $25/tire with balancing
So it cheaper for me to buy at Costco $657.91 installed balanced and taxes in Canada:eek:
I think I will put the them on 15" and look for 17" for the summer

Thanks everyone, this was good information. I think I will go with the Michellin x-Ice XI2 on new rims without sensors and leave the TPMS lamp on for the winter. They seem to cause more expense and hassle then benefit for now.

I recommend the Bridgestone Blizzaks. Had them on my Infiniti and they were great. I just bought a set of wheels with the Blizzaks on them and will put them on my IV when the snow starts to fly. Sure it's pricey to buy another set of wheels but it makes changing back and forth a lot easier. And make sure you take the Blizzaks off when the snow melts. They last a lot longer.

Was on discount tires website, they show Mich Xice 2 in 205/60R-15 91T BSW but not 195, for 103 plus free shipping to Canada
but with duty it is $584, then add in exchange and installtion still cheaper in Canada:eek:

As I recall, when I bought my steel wheels from Tire Rack a few years ago, they included some dinky plastic alloy wheel look hub caps.

I looked at the Tire Rack site a couple of months ago and they weren't offering steel wheels in the 15" size at that time. They get scarce this time of year.
