OK- I got stuck in my own driveway for the third time this week. What kind of snow tires are folks putting on their Prius?

Blizzaks work. (Or at least they did when I lived in New England.)

Use the seach function, you will find lots of answers.

Bottom line: top end snow tires - Goodyear, Michelin, Toyo, Bridgestone, Nokian. Get four.

Absolutely love the Goodyear Comfortreds 195/60-15. No problem at all during the last snow. Even when the traction control came on it did not reduce the power to the car noticeably. I live in Ohio.

I don't have snows, but use Michelin all-season MXV4+ in the stock size. Obviously they aren't as good as a sticky snow tire, but they work well all year, even with our snowy winters.

    Tom,

I had MXV4+ tires on my 2004 Prius for 2 years (55,000 miles) and they are good tires, but not great in snow/ice. The tires I have now are Nokian WRs (again in the stock size) and they are all-weather tires that are great in snow while also being LRR (good MPG).

We have Michelin X-Ice tires on our Prius. I love 'em and would buy them again in a heartbeat.

I have the Nokian WR tires, and don't know much about the others mentioned, but one thing nice about the Nokian WR tires is their 50,000 mile treadwear warrantee (if you trust it) means you can use them all year long. I upsized one to 195 60R 15, and took no MPG hit at all.

I just got Michelin X-Ice two weeks ago. So far so good.

    Hope this help.

I bought 4 Michelin X-Ice last winter. They got me through some deep stuff. I referred to my Prius as my little Snow Machine. While other people were slipping, sliding and spinning, I was just chuggin' on through. I'd highly recommend them. I did have to have Tire Barn order them for me though, as they don't carry them in stock. Just took a couple of days though. Well worth the wain.

I bought our 2007 Prius in July in Maine. Now December 12" snow and this car is u-s-e-l-e-s-s in snow and even on ice. It must be a "girly" car, as it has no balls backing up in snow, can't even spin the tires- OK, nuf said, I love the car for everything else it does...So, I bought 4 steel rims, and soon will have wally mart install 4 STUDDED bad boy snow tires on this critter-see if it can dig it's way out of 1" of snow. (just under $400.oo, total, taxes, disposal fees, etc) Otherwise, I'll park it and use the Ford Escort in the winter.

Blizzak is a Bridgestone tire in the US.

I got four non-studded winter tires (x-ice 2) and the Prius is fine in snow.

We have Bridgestone Blizzaks on steel wheels. With these shoes, the Prius is a good snow car. We travel down the gorge and over the pass from Portland OR to Yakima WA, it can get pretty icy and snowy.

However, the Blizzaks are not lasting all that long, perhaps because for most of the Portland winter we are driving in rain, not snow. I put them on in Nov and take them off in Mar/Apr, and I think we'll only get 3 winters from the set.

I think the next tires will be some Nokian WR for year-round use.

Be aware that the chart is a bit dated. It's showing the OLD x-ice tires, not the new x-ice xi2 tires.
