So groceries don't fit in the Prime cargo area?

The cover included for the Advanced black interior is also black, which will soak up the rays and increasing the temp. in the back when deployed. Not a good thing in the summer. In the winter, if parked outside in just the right orientation, it will be great. I'd love to have a reversible cover to deal with the temperatures and the seasons -- which is a great idea for someone to come up with. Hint.

I guess it's because the interior is. Is black and so is the cargo area. The Gen 3 had a light grey cargo area (regardless of interior colour chosen) and the Gen 2 had a light grey or beige cargo area (and tonneau cover) depending on interior colour.

That's what I'm guessing too. Until someone with an Advanced Moonstone interior comes in here with their info, I'll bet the Moonstone's cover isn't black. Seriously, I saw, in person (and amazingly, in Illinois), the black Advanced the same day I was reading another thread that was talking about the covers and thought about what that color would do for heat buildup. This was months ago.

I would love a white/black reversible back tray mat to either absorb heat, or to repel it.

EDIT: Oh!! 2017 Toyota Prius Prime | Universal Cargo Mat and Trunk Mat for Cars SUVs and Minivans | WeatherTech.com

But really, a silver reflective hatch glass shield would be better still in the summer.

    EDIT2: Oh! Oh!

Guess I should've searched first. And when will electrically activated LCD transparency filtering be available for auto glass? That would solve a lot of problems; and also be illegal in 48 states no doubt.

A black tonneau seem less than ideal, but it still shades the top of the battery compartment.

I keep thinking about @Danny 's test drive of the 2016, and the walk-around with Toyota USA rep. They were discussing the deleted upper glove box, and the rep says something to the effect of the upper glove box would disturb the swooping sculpture line in the dash.

That stuck in my head. And I would think the black tonneau cover falls into the same category, that a light colour would clash, lol.

Also, something that was pushed-pushed-pushed at the 2016 reveal, was this unified architecture, whatever the expression was, that all the Toyota vehicles would have many common components. Maybe black tonneau is one example.

In our culture, swoopy sells. It might only get 11 mpg and have to get fixed twice a year, but, HEY!, it's swoopy.

Yesterday's run. This time, everything including the large boxes fit in the cargo area.

Two things changed - I removed the tonneau cover and I didn't worry about blocking my view out the back. And, yes, the hatch did close without squishing anything and without anything touching the window.

You can remove two snack box packaging, have 30 bags and 24 bags loose so that more items can be purchased and stored.

I just bought a Prime and this is so very helpful thank you! Trunk/cargo space was the only reason I almost didn't buy it. My question is, how do you know how much you can stuff back there without it hitting the window when you close the hatch? Is there some me kind of guide you can go by?

As with all hatchbacks, just follow the lines on the side of the vehicle. You can fit that shape plus some

Close the hatch firmly. If it doesn't latch, remove/rearrange stuff. Repeat as necessary.
