My car auto unlocks but I noticed it doesn't auto lock. At first, I thought I didn't wait long enough but I definitely have now.

I didn't get the optional alarm system but I figured it should lock itself when I walk away, shouldn't it? Is there a setting? (It may be set that way because my car was used in an auto show)

    Don't think so. Previous gen's didn't.

You need to press the lines on the door handles or the bump in the hatch handle.

No unfortunately it doesn't have that feature.
Haven't tested it a lot, BUT have read that it will "Re-Lock" if you unlock the doors but then don't open them.

I think if you had upgraded the alarm system it would of included auto-lock.

I wish Toyota did include this option, as I've had other vehicles with this feature and it was nice. Took away worry that I had maybe left the vehicle and forgot to lock it.

True ^^, if you unlock them but don't open a door within a preset time they will relock.

IIRC there was a after-market mod for Gen2 but have not heard much since then

That works! I can do with that although auto lock would be nice.

    Question.
What do you mean by "my car auto unlocks"?

Why would anyone ever want a feature such as that?

My mom has a Honda, when she walks near the car, it unlocks (nearest door), when she walks away (with the key fob), it locks. The reason you'd want that is because presumably you, the owner, have the keyfob and the car would lock when you leave the car.

    OK.
But then technically "Your Car" doesn't auto unlock. Your mom's Honda does.

I suppose that's OK...but I don't really like the idea of unlocking based on proximity. This can be a cruel world and if you compare that method of vehicle entry vs. The Toyota SKS, I'd rather the vehicle unlocks ONLY when I am touching the door handle (or press the fob to unlock) to get in. Seems to me that's just as convenient and potentially safer.

Oh I misread your question, my car auto unlocks when I go to open the door. I don't mind a proximity unlock but I would like a proximity (or lack of) lock.

    Semantics and minutia.
But IMO if you have to touch the door handle for it to unlock, that's NOT an auto-unlock, it takes action on your part.
And I like it that way.

Well I just mean that I don't have to touch the fob at all for it to unlock.
