Solar panel manufacturing in Germany created 40,000 jobs. Can the U.S. do the same? More appropriately, will the U.S. do the same?

I'm a big advocate of retrofitting obsolete
domestic car factories into solar panel or wind factories. Why not? They were retrofitted for WWII supplies.

Certainly the U.S. *could* do the same. We have plenty of factories and workers that could do exactly that.

    The question is....*will* we?

Germany is #1 in the world for solar, both in manufacturing and use. It looks like Japan is going to challenge that. There is no reason for the U.S. not to be #1 in solar. We should be making more panels, better panels and using more of them ourselves. There is no excuse.

We'll see if anything changes after January, 2009
