Hi everyone, this is my first post so please take it easy on me. I'm not sure that I'm posting this in the correct category.

I bought my 2013 Prius Three 6 months ago. This is not just a regular Prius, it took me 4 months to find the one with all the options that I want, which makes this a very special car. It has a weird combination of options.

    List of all the Options:
    - Theft Engraving
    - 3M Clear Mask
    - Northwest Protection Package
    - Paintguard
    - Fiberguard
    - Soundguard
    - Rustguard
    - Sunroof
    - Extended 7 year warranty from bumper to bumper (overpriced)
    - Maintenance Contract
    - Platinum Coverage Plan

I purchased these protection packages to protect the car from nature (rain, bird poop, salt, snow etc).

I really though that I could keep the exterior of my Prius in perfect condition when I bought these protection packages.

Unfortunately I didn't think that some lowlife prick would vandalize my precious car. The car was parked outside in front of my house. I didn't take two parking spaces and I don't have any enemies. I'm not sure if a lowlife scratched it or a kid scratched it with a bike or a toy.

The scratch is about 1 3/4 inches in length and it's deep, I can feel it when I slide my finger across it.

I'm not sure how to get rid of the scratch without doing any damage to the paint. I have an Automotive Protection System set that I bought a few months ago and never used (pictures included). I lost the instructions and I have no idea how to apply to buff the scratch out.

I want to mask this scratch so no one could see it. I don't want the bumper to have any rust or paint peeling. The body shop would be my last resort if I can't fix it my self.
Thank you very much for reading my post and thank you for your help and reply's in advance!

The body shop quoted me $800 to get rid of the scratch. I never visited a body shop to get rid of a scratch so I don't know if $800 a fair price.

What can I do to stop people from vandalizing my car? I will buy a 360 degrees surveillance camera and have Car Toys do the installation so in the future I'll have a video recording of the person and a video as evidence. Does that sound like a good idea or is it just a waste of money?

Bumper is a type of plastic will not rust!
More likely was a accident, common place for a scratch, to bad. I can not help with a fix. Someone with paint knowledge will chime in.
    Enjoy your new car!

All cars will get scratched, this one being on the bumper is actually not too bad. I bet you're the only one that notices it. I hate to say, but as a car owner, there will be plenty more of those that will come around.

You have a nice car and the only way you are going to be happy with it is to get a couple of more estimates and take it to the body shop and have it professionally repaired.

You know how it goes... "The first cut (scratch) is the deepest..." there's even a song about it.

I've picked up some mystery scratches on the rear bumper cover over the years. If the scratch is big enough I would try filling it with touch up paint applied with a toothpick. ScratchX is good for removing excess paint whether you applied it or it's from another car.

You didn't list the applique. What do you have across the top of the rear bumper cover?

Yeah, the first one hurts. If this is the worst you get over the years you'll be in great shape.

I would bring it to a professional detailer to let them look at it and see what they say.

Get a microfiber towel and some Scratch Doctor or if you have some wax use that just to experiment-you wont hurt it.
Use the microfiber towel with the wax and rub like a crazy man for about thirty minutes and you may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

I feel your pain, my Prius is not even three weeks old and tonight when I came out of the gym I noticed a huge scratch on the rocker panel below the driver door, its approx 4 inches long. There are actually two scratches and the bigger one is all the way through the clear I am afraid...

Ibmoses is right, that scratch might rub out with wax and elbow grease

:)Sorry to hear of the damage to your Prius. It's impossible to protect any vehicle that's used daily. Only luck and trying to park away from others will minimize potential damage. Most dealers utilize independent professionals that do painless dent removal, paint touch
up, wheel repair, etc. Check with dealer service advisors for their schedules and confer with one of them.

:confused:Looks like you purchased every add-on your dealer offered. None of those will protect your Prius from what happened.

If buffing does not get rid of it (depending how deep), you could give a touch up paint pen a shot. You can typically buy this from the dealer. You would apply the paint on the scratch and then buff/polish. Repeat until you get an acceptable blend to your liking.

I recommend going to the dealer instead of an auto parts store to get the paint pen because the pen from the dealer will probably have the best chance of a matching paint.

Try Chemical Guys they make a swirl and light rubbing compound. I just picked up a big jar for $2.

if it is on the bumper just let it go, and get it fixed after someone hits you a second or third time. The first scratch is always the hardest, after the first scratch it becomes a used car and you won't care as much. Like the first (x) girlfriend that dumps you and rips your heart out and kicks you to the curb.

If someone was going to key your car they do it on the door or front fender or down the entire side of your car. Or in the case of my Japanese X-girlfriend, small scratches every day for two weeks with a bottle opener on a brand new BMW 325ci.

That story didn't end happily, for her - i was so pissed i went into her place of business and spoke to the HR manager. Security escorted me out of the building. She was terminated from her job during a random drug testing several months later...

BTW - it looks like a shopping cart at a home depot or a ralph's was the culprit.... No worries.

I looked at a Scotty Kilmer video on You Tube concerning how to remove scratches. He gave a demonstration using a product by the name of SCRATCH OUT that removed the scratches. He did not address the issue of the severity (depth) of the scratches that the product is effective at removing. I have a small scratch on my rear bumper. I think I will buy a container and try it. In his demonstration he used the liquid.

find a nice bumper sticker. or a little touch up paint should work in the meantime... fill the scratch lightly - apply sever coats and color sand. you might want to tape off the the area. No big deal. I put a nice scratch in my rear door about one month ago.

I saw a video on You Tube by Scotty Kilmer demonstrating a liquid product by the name of SCRATCH OUT. It removed all the scratches. He did not go in to detail about the depth of scratches the product will remove. I'm guessing probably surface scratches. Might be worth your consideration. Not much to lose by giving it a try.
