Spark plug condition

    Hello,
    So I had a question about my spark plugs. They were installed by the previous owner @ 125k and the vehicle is now at 157k so I decided to pull them out for an inspection/re-torque. The gap looked good with them all between .39"-.42" however I was wondering what you guys though of plug #2. I thought it looked like it may have a bit of carbon buildup and was hoping for a second opinion. They are NGK IFR5T11.

    The plugs look OK considering the photo quality. The spark plug ceramic insulator at the tip should be tan in color.

    If you don't have engine misfire codes then why worry.

    I though so too. I think the previous owner must have used some anti-seize

    What do you mean SM-N900P?

    Yeah it's way too much antiseize

    Ignore that other thing, it's an automated signature. I disable it and it comes back after the app updates. Annoying

    That is why I don't use antiseize. Also NGK recommends against such use on their plugs.

    Assuming the OP wipes off the threaded shell prior to reinstallation, the tightening torque is 13 ft.-lb.

    Unfortunately I already reinstalled prior to posting. However I will probably go ahead and take them back out to wipe them off now that I realize NGK recommends against anti seize. The other thing I read that can cause wet threads is a leaky valve cover gasket, so if it comes back after I wipe them down then I may look into that as well.

    Regarding the valve cover gasket, you might look into each of the four spark plug holes to see how clean the spark plug wells are. If the valve cover gasket is leaking then you might be able to see evidence of that.
