Does anyone know the specs of the tow hook for the 2016 Prius zvw50/51.

I am planning to order an aftermarket tow hook accessory.

    Thanks!

Why not just take the one you have out of the trunk and measure it?

Or more specifically: maybe if you find something the supplied tow hook will screw into, say a similar component at a local auto supply store, then you'll have an idea what's compatible.

Better luck at a hardware store which carries a full range of metric nuts. If what you want is diameter and pitch, you can get that from the specs for the nut that will screw on.

I can tell you that the ones for the Gen 4 Liftback are different from the ones for the Gen 3 Liftback, they look similar but the threads are different.

Went to OSH and they did not have a metric screw large enough to fit the tow hook, the closest they had was a 7/8-9 coarse thread lug nut.

If anyone can provide some helpful feedback or another car tow hook to compare to, please advise.

    Thanks.

Just compared to a 2012 ct200h, same coarse thread of 5 and same length, but the the Prius hook is slightly larger, probably one metric size up.

Please advise if you know any models with a hook that is slightly bigger than the ct200h

I went through this exercise back with my Gen 1 (it turned out to be M22x2), but now I have a Gen 3, and I see it is different, joy. Whether Gen 3 and Gen 4 are the same, I don't know.

My Gen 3 eye seems to have a major diameter around 17.66 mm and thread pitch around 3 mm, and the thread form does not look like a common screw thread. It looks like a trapezoidal thread form, possibly Acme (apparently there is also a DIN metric trapezoidal standard, but the Wikipedia article suggests Acme may be more common even in usually-metric regions).

If you find a source for a 5/8" x 8 Acme nut, you might see if the tow eye fits it. In the chart of Acme dimensions that seems close-ish to what I measured. (Again, I'm looking at a Gen 3 tow eye, no idea if they changed it again for Gen 4.)

It might be tricky to find prefab accessories with that thread; perhaps you'd end up finding or fabricating something with a plain end and having it threaded at a shop with the proper tooling.

I am actually in the process of working with Cravenspeed.com to figure out the right adapter for their platypus pro license plate mount.

confirmed the gen3 adapter is too small.

Please stay tuned for my soon to come update!

Derek Cross from cravenspeed.com told me that the threads on the 2016 Prius are a 19mm knuckle thread.
