Sticker shock from entune extension box failure

    My 2012 Prius 3 apps and phone quit working suddenly, and after testing it was the extension box (aka hard drive) and exchange replacement is quite pricey. My wife wants to keep the vehicle stock, but it seems to me that the combined price for the head unit and hard drive would be the equivalent of the price of a JBL HDD system in the beginning. Oh well, another "better" idea.

    Some the after market head units available are good, but, you would have to do the install yourself or have it installed. Either way, yep, it is pricey dicey!

    I would definitely talk to some aftermarket installers before doing anything. Find a reputable stereo shop near you and see what they say. Even if the replacement system cost just as much, it will likely be a nicer/better system in regard to apps and such.

    I have an Alpine iLX-007 in my Scion. There was nothing wrong with the original, but I wanted CarPlay. The unit works as expected, but nothing thrilling about it. The dealer is working with us on pricing which will help.

    Installed yesterday, got a goodwill discount, now I wonder if the maps and entune are current.

    Entune was 3.2, I flashed to 5.2, but maps are May 2011. I do not think they can be updated, besides I feel in-car nav is going the way of the dodo bird.
