Thank you. 125k miles. Mechanic said the hybrid battery is at 40%. Is that not plenty of juice left for years yet? He said his scanner is excellent, and he sells and repairs high-end cars....kinda hard to believe he doesn't have a decent scanner...
Very odd that there's no codes. Does Toyota only have the proper scanners for Prius cars???

Toyota officially sells their TechStream software only to Toyota dealers to read Toyota-specific codes.

Ah, so maybe my mechanic's scanner isn't up to the job?...I saw a link listed in this thread to buy one online. Is that one up to par? It's cheap enuf, I could buy it for him. In your opinion, would that be a waste of time? I really don't trust my local Toyota dealership. All the service techs are on commission, and the place is known for doing unnecessary work. I know they're going to tell me to replace the hybrid battery even if it doesn't really need it :(

if he is amenable, it would be worthwhile. he would also have to subscribe to toyota tech info, for $15. for 2 days, for help diagnosing and repairing.
are you near todd at tampa hybrids by any chance?

I'm in Bradenton, about 1.5 hrs away. I'd be scared to drive it that far like it is. But I just thought of something, and you are going to die laughing at me when I tell you this.
I had the entire rear seat assembly removed years ago, seats and backs, because my 110 lb wolfdog couldn't fit back there, even with seat backs down - he's too tall, standing or sitting. He never touches the wires and connections that are exposed on the passenger side, and I only let him enter and exit on the driver's side because there's less stuff on that side....but maybe something has come loose over the years...?
Both my mechanic and I are idiots for not considering that.
What do you think? Could something loose there be causing my problems? I'm bringing it back to him Wed and will ask him to check all connections.
    Thank you for your patience,
    Laura

.....And he couldn't lie down on the back seat either - with front paws extended while lying down, he's longer than the back seat!
He needs a bigger vehicle, but I got the Prius before I got the wolfdog :)

A/C cutting out and hybrid battery not charging are both symptoms of an inverter cooling system that's not working. Your mechanic should make sure that all of the air is out of the system and it's getting good circulation.

Well hope FL 05 Prius made out ok, but I'm still having problems with mine. I did get a text stream cable and program but not sure how did you use it. I did get my torch app to run a test and this is what it found Hope somebody can follow it, all I knew to do was replace the spark plugs which I did already.it still giving red triangle and only converter code.it still giving red triangle and only converter code. All I knew to do was replace the spark plugs and that did not help. Here is the test results.
    Thanks have a great day

It looks like your "torch" app is not properly configured. You may need to install Prius specific PIDs in order to get a reliable test report. I would take the current report with a grain of salt.

PID is an acronym for Parameter IDentification and is usually a file of many parameters. Essentially it is a series of codes to interrogate the ECUs, interpret the response and then convert it into an person understandable form.
