That was actually a super car coming out of nowhere from Toyota. Great sports car in the early 90s for a decent amount of change. The Twin Turbo version was a killer...but the car does look a little chubby.

I guess all manufacturers have funny names. Really, must be a hard job thinking of one. I think Toyota has really funny names: TUNDRA, TACOMA (spanish translation = it's in a coma), ECHO (hmm..pretty quiet car, doesn't leave much of a trace)...

IMO Honda has pretty good AND suitable names: Civic, Accord, Element, S2000, Ridgeline. Not too sure about PILOT and CR-V (recycle me?).

The 'K' car. What's so special about that? 'iCar' was taken, but what was so wrong with 'A car' and 'D car'? :)

That silly name was used only in the U.S. market. In the rest of the world it was known as the Renault R5.

Speaking of MAZDA, what kind of names were 323, 626, 929 a few years back? Numeric palandromes are cool but not for cars.

Ford Fiesta ~ nothing says "it's party time!" like a Fiesta, right?

Ford Pinto ~ is it a bean? Is it a horse? Apparently neither. Or possibly both.

Mitsubishi Mirage ~ wait, where'd it go? I swear I just saw it a moment ago. Hmmm.

Buick Rendezvous ~ apparently the car is en route to a secret meeting with a special someone?

Chrysler Crossfire ~ caught in one? I hope not in this car.

Chrysler Prowler ~ need to sneak around outside someone's house in the middle of the night? This is the car to do it in.

Cadillac El Dorado ~ named after a place that may not even exist, except in myths?

Dodge Razor ~ or else it will slice you to bits?

Plymouth Fury ~ what's it so angry at?

Colorado Avalanche, Jeep Hurricane, Geo Storm, Pontiac Tempest, Oldsmobile Toronado (reminds me of tornado)...what's with naming cars after natural disasters??

That's all I've got.

Heh.

I had an R12l

It would go so far, like to a mall, and then refuse to start...

I think this is when I became a Francophobe ;)

There's also Toyota Tundra, Toyota Celica Tsunami Edition, FPV F6 Typhoon, Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent, Oldsmobile Aurora.

Ya know, JDM cars have a lotta funky names.

Nissan: Prairie, Bluebird Sylphy, Tiida Latio, Otti, Moco, Note, Elgrand, Expert, Lafesta
Toyota: Voxy, Raum, Sienta, Will, Rush, Wish, Allex, Comfort, Ist, Succeed, Noah, Ractis
Honda: Vamos (it's the opposite of what the name says. It's really really slow!), Inspire (US Accord, formerly US TL), Fit, Hobio

I do!!

Duetto was the name that an ALFA Romeo employee came up with for the replacement for the Guiletta

Duetto was the forerunner of the Spider Veloce (mine was an ivory over blue 1984)

The Supra was initially the top end of the Celica, basically Super Celica. In the early 80s, the Supra is just a v6 version of the Celica. In 1986, they made the Supra a different car and dropped the Celica nameplate all together.

I THINK the Ford Pinto must have been named for the bean, given its explosive properties... And whatever Chrysler may have been thinking of, I would say that Prii are MUCH better prowlers--as long as the backup beeps are disabled...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Boxster...WRX...Prius? @ Jul 8 2006, 12:57 PM) </div>
With all due respect, Boxster is a pretty dumb name for a sports car--sounds like a wooden crate with wheels, or just about anything that is nothing to do with a spiffy sprots car...(And, have you ever noticed that when someone starts a sentence "with all due respect," it is likely to be offensive to someone? Not that *I* intended offense...just couldn't help myself!) And, with Taurus also meaning BULL, I would say that Ford shovels a helluva lot of what comes out of the back end of a bull, no?

I live in Rhode Island, where the native speakers tend to drop the letter "r" ("clam chowda"). I saw a Boxster with a license plate that read "BOXSTA".
