I have noticed that some mobile-users on PC send messages where advertising text is appended to their posts, such as:

"This post was written on an HTC Vista using Trampolinetalk"

I suggest that the forum software detects such advertisement and gives the users three choices:

    1) Let the forum continue as now and fill any text message with the spam.
    2) Remove the auto generated spam automatically
    3) Asks the user if the spam should be removed after posts are submitted (default option)
    4) Notify tapatalk users that they can disable the spam when they post - with a link to a tutorial.

I know it is a lot of work to add such changes, but it's either this or me having to write a Firefox extension...

Considering Danny is still working and quite busy on getting the site stable as it's been having trouble the past week or even two, you may want to begin on that Firefox extension. I'm not saying he cant or won't look into it, but I don't think it's high on his priority list right now.

Is it just me or was the other option ignored "just overlook the tag line"?

    It is what everybody does...

And it does not reduce the spam, so it's not a valid option to the problem.

The messages are essentially signatures... but unlike signatures, they can not be disabled, hence the annoyance.

You make the assumption that this is a problem. For most of us it isn't.

There is a difference between being a problem and being a problem for a specific amount of people, hence I raise the suggestion and avoid using the word "problem" in OP to minimise confusion.
If the gain we get from addressing the issue is less than the annoyance for not, then clearly it should be ignored.
You make the assumption that it isn't an issue for most of us. Can you support that assumption? If you can, then it implies that the problem should be ignored.

    > qbee42. You forgot to thank Paradox. If you read his post, you can see that he is not supporting my suggestion ;)

I'm not too bothered by the tapatalk tag line, though I think it's kind of silly and kind of like advertising. But then, some folks think that my list of cars in my sig is kind of like advertising. If I used tapatalk, I'd disable the tag line if that's an option.

It is an option, and there is a legitimate reason for having the tag, ie. to warn people that autocomplete might have kicked in and garbled stuff up or the sentences had to be shortened.

But this could be accomplished with a simple tag like:
    "- Username, a mobile app."

When people have the standard tag it is as if they are oblivious of it. It's like the free text messaging services where only the receiver gets all the spam.

I strongly dislike programs that do that. If I use a free program, it has the right to insert advertising as long as it's honest and up-front about it. If I pay for a program, advertising should be opt-in: No advertising unless I authorize it. If Tapatalk inserts an advertising tag line without explicit permission from the user, then in my opinion it's a shady app.

I see no problem here. One line of text. It's not like it's inserting an animated banner or anything like that.

I don't like the spam either, but I can understand the moderators having more important things to deal with.

PriQ, Looks like you aren't getting a lot of empathy here. But if the situation bothers you, it bothers you. It's time for you to write your FF extension.

Well at least I would be able to make something that I would use :-P
No really. I'm just waiting for an excuse to get into add-on dev. for this platform - especially since many good add-ons have been abandoned. Fixing them will be much easier once I have experience with small projects (such as detecting tapatalk messages).

If you were to write one flexible enough that others could use it to delete whatever they wanted to delete, it could be popular.
