Summary of problems reported on Prius 2010

The only 2 I can take seriously are the brakes grabbing in reverse (which I have not experienced), and the bluetooth lag.

 

I've experienced the grabbing brakes in reverse one time. Surprising but not dangerous due to the low speed involved.
I have not experienced any lag with my bluetooth but I don't have the NAV. In any event I wouldn't consider that a drive-ability issue.

 

I remember right after the Gen III came out, there were a number of complaints that the driver's seat was very uncomfortable on the II and III (no lumbar adjustment), and one or two folks even decided to sell their cars because of it. I'm wondering now whether folks who have had the car for some time would consider this a defect?
Or was it something particular to the size/shape/back condition of those drivers?

 

I considered the drivers seat of my Gen2 quite uncomfortable on long trips, maybe 300 miles or more. I have driven my Gen3 for 700 miles in a day and have no problems with the driving position, the changes they made work pretty well for me. I should add my car has the adjustable lumbar support which I think helps. The telescoping steering wheel and the extra leg room help even more. It's far from the most comfortable car seat I have owned but it's sure better than it was.

 

Very comfy to me... but I never had a Gen II to compare to.

 

The steering Telescopes?...... I'm gonna have to break down and read that manual!

 

Well it's a very small telescope but it does move a bit.

Why bother? there's plenty of people on here that have studied it and they will tell you what you need to know. Just ignore the RTFM comments.

That's strange since I've driven by several and am always right on or 1 MPH different, never more. I guess it differs by car.

I'm still struggling to find the most comfortable position and I have a IV. I compared the seat with the cloth one on my Kia (I had an adjustment period with it too) and noticed the Kia had a protruding bulge where the back meets the seat while the Prius is smooth (the lumbar support is hard, while the bulge in the Kia is padded). I think it is getting better (still lower back stiffness, less pain after 2 months). I hope so, since I drive 1000 miles per week. Other than that the car is great. I have a wedge cushion to reduce the bucket seat effect, which seems to be my particular problem.

I consider me the defect, not the car, since only a few have a problem out of all the PRIUS 10 owners. If a seat were made to fit me it might not work for many others.

Our 2010 has almost 3k miles on it. A while back I reported a full clamp on the brakes when I barely touched the pedal--in FWD. This recurred two days ago starting away from the gas pump: at about 2 mph I touched the brake and got full stop reaction. Likewise the other two incidents were at extremely low speeds--1-2 mph. I haven't been able to duplicate that strong reaction to my mild brake action.

In the last two days, per suggestions in this forum, I've set the POWER button rather than ECO or EV. I like this new personality. We keep track of gallons consumed, miles covered. I'll report consumptions after a tank or two.

The shift selection to N, neutral, does not take effect if you lay the lever to the left and then let go. You need to hold it there for a full second, seems longer, before the electrics turn off. I think if the car is moving slowly and you touch to N it takes effect right away. Anyhow, the action could be quicker.

My hope is that this forum is monitored by the Prius wizards and that fine tunes will come back to us consumers. This is a great car, prized and relished. Toyota demonstrates the symbiosis between manufacturer and consumber.

 

I don't know how much of a problem this is but my Prius requires a firmer push on the brake pedal to disengage the cruise control than any car i have ever had. To the point that my bride, who is usually asleep in the passenger seat, has her head loll forward whenever I disengage cruise using the brake. This usually wakes her up and earns me a dirty look. I plan on having this checked out when I take it in for the first service but I am wondering if others have noticed the same thing or not.

 

Mine does that too... I assumed it was to prevent inadvertent disengagement by accidentally touching the brake, but I agree, its a bit firm and should be less.

 

Hadn't noticed this, but if I have plenty of time to think about it, I just press the button anyway (rather than the brake).

At least three people have had this problem. Without having done anything with the Nav DVD, you suddenly get a message telling you that you need to insert the DVD.
