What I don't get is why Toyota Canada has such a premium over the US price of the Prius and this is not the case for the Civic. At least it wasn't when I was shopping around spring of 2007. There was very little premium (maybe a few hundred dollars) on the Canadian hybrid Civic over the US one. I know Toyota since then dropped the Canadian prices a couple of times. Give them credit for it and encourage:cheer2: them to continue to narrow the gap.

The Civic Hybrid is more expensive than the Prius in the US which is the opposite here (Granted, we do get a better equipped Prius but the Civic Hybrid dropped from $28,500 in 2005 to $25,800 in 2006). Also when I bought the Prius, the exchange rate was 1.5x so a $20,000 Prius is $30,000 and ours is better equipped at $30,000. On the flipside, at $38,000, our navigation system option was considerably more expensive than the US one (topping out near $26k in 2005 IIRC).

Since then, the price of a factory navigation has dropped to about $1,600 for the Camry and lower for the Corolla/Matrix/Yaris as they have a low-cost version of the navigation system.
