I hear you. I'd love to have it. But it wouldn't be the wisest move for me now; not when the US and my personal economies are in the beginning of what looks like will be a long economic downturn.
Anyway we can get a group purchase discount? I would have no problem driving down your way to get the sun roof installed if we could get several persons together for a group purchase, including installation. Anybody have some thoughts on this idea?
Re: Sunroof Group Discount I just spoke with Dempsey Wynn, the president of Hampton Roads Sunroofs, regarding a group discount. The good news: He replied that he would be happy to entertain the notion, and would treat the group just like his new car dealer customers. Dealers buy in lots of three installs or more. The bad news: All the cars would need to be there at once (or very close to it with guaranteed arrivals) to minimize downtime. That is how he would cut the costs that would otherwise get passed down. Even so, it takes a day to do one car. All in all, not a bad plan, considering Hampton Roads includes Virginia Beach, Old town Portsmouth, Nauticus in Norfolk with the Battleship Wisconsin, Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Busch Gardens. There is plenty to do while killing time. Additionally, the shop is located in a new upscale industrial area just blocks from a very nice shopping center and Mall. All the usual stores and tons of restaurants. Maybe a mile walk in super clean and nice Chesapeake, Va. You can Google map the location: 1119 Executive Blvd, Chesapeake, Va 23320. Hotels nearby as well. P.S.: I am not shilling for Dempsey. I am paying forward the debt I owe to members SaeGai and craigk who achieved the earliest sunroof installs that I copied. They made it easy for me by posting their results including some very informative pictures. Until they posted, there was no known suroof solution for the Prius! I know that because I googled it steadily for over two years without joy. All I ever got for an answer from dealers and other installers was "no way, can't be done because of the roof shape." I will attempt to make it easy for others.
A group install sounds great, but this means that we all have to be there at the same time, AND it would be a multi-day thing since it takes one day per one car? How would that work? Also, is there any kind of warranty for future water leakage or anything like that?
This is sooooooo nice looking. It's clean and it looks like it does the job. Well done. Now if I could find someone in Minnesota that would touch my Prius. They are all afraid of trying.
Hi rochesteruser, The Webasto website shows these dealers/installers in Minnesota: Minnesota Dealers Good luck.
This link has a shop in Minneapolis that installs the sunroof. http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-modifications/32662-sunroof-installed-2007-prius-minneapolis.html
Thanks. I just called Sunroof Concepts in Minneapolis MN and the guy Nate who is the Webasto Specialist Installer said it couldn't be done. Then I sent him the link to this thread and he is now calling the Shop in Chesapeak VA to do some research to see how they did it. I could have one of these real soon if he gets the guts to work on my car.
Boy you got guts even though there are shops here in ny i rather take a trip to VA then be someone's first Prius .I'm in for the group buy.
Spur, Nice looking sunroof! I've been off PC for awhile and just saw it. Sorry if I missed any questions from anybody, PM me for answers. Thanks for the credit, it was really SaeGai that gave me the confidence to pursue this and find a competent installer that would say yes. I LOVE my Prius sunroof! Craig
Hi Spur If possible can you post pictures of sunroof open and closed from the front .From what i can tell because of the the two dips in our roof some filler needs to be used .Did they use a filler and can you post pics from the front closeup ? thanks alot Bobby b
Wow! That's a nice addition to your ride! Moonroofs/sunroofs are always a nice feature whatever car it may be. Keep it up! ____________________ The Driver's Notebook
Re: Sunroof Installed, Details I've had a request for front, rear and side close up shots of the installed sunroof. Here they are. Hope it is helpful to those interested. These are 1024 X 768 so they should blow up OK.
No fillers were used for my sunroof. Rear dips remain, front dips flatten out. Here are more pictures: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-modifications/32662-sunroof-installed-2007-prius-minneapolis.html
