Hey good morning guys! I have a 2004 Toyota Prius that the hybrid battery keeps dying out. I changed the hybrid battery and same thing with that one as well, it died out. I even changed the 12 volt battery. If you guys have an idea what it could be please let me know. Thank you!

welcome! how many miles on her?

the first thing you need is a prius aware scanner like torque pro to read the trouble codes.

if you are going to diy, you can download the service manual at tech info.toyota.com

where did you get the replacement hybrid battery? most rebuilt are a waste of time. best to purchase a new battery if you are going to keep the car.

did you check the voltage of the new 12v before installing?

    all the best!(y)

Also, if you haven't been using a code reader, how have you been deciding that the HV battery was "dying out" all these times?

If the Inverter was unhappy it would throw many lights on the dash.

I find it incomprehensible that someone would replace and or work on a hybrid battery without a techstream capable obd code reader. But see it all the time here. So many people buying used beat up G2's that all need a battery and alot of other things. Looking for a deal.

The codes the car throws are very important. You must harvest them with a techstream reader. Other obd's may no pull all hybrid codes without that factory software. You have no chance whatsoever of competently repairing the car without it.

Like you all I can do is guess. My first guess is you bought or had the battery repaired by a Craigslist whack a moler with a tail light warranty. Soon as that dude can no longer see your taillights when you drive away he never heard of you.

No I took out the hybrid battery off of my other working Prius and it started normally and then completely died out. I saw it on the screen that has the battery diagram and the battery went all the way down and the car turned off.

The dash should have been absolutely lit up though with warning lights

All the lights did come on. But can one if you guys answer what are the symptoms of bad hybrid inverter/converter? Also I did use a snap on code reader and it just keeps throwing the same codes about replace hybrid battery.

if the prius won't go into drive or park, it won't recharge the hybrid battery. it just keeps draining until it is dead.

idk the symptoms of a bad inverter, but a prius code reader would give you the correct trouble code, not a snap on generic.

I recently replaced my inverter (bought it knowing the controller/ECM for the hvac inside the inverter was bad)
Ayer replacing it, I will say that my faster charges much faster, more consistently, and I see it "green" much more

    It's only $200 and 2 hours work...just do it!
$300 total with a new OE inverter pump and coolant...

Did the car really turn on? Did it ever go to "ready"? Did the engine actually turn over or run, or are you just saying the battery indicator slowly tapered to nothing. Because, if that is the case, the safety interlock probably isn't completely installed (with Step 3 of the installation procedure....)
Upon restoring 12v power, the MFD will display some bars, but it will slowly drop to nothing as the car thinks nothing is there.

Give us a run down of all the symptoms you experienced when you first decided to replace the battery. Then describe exactly what happened after you replaced it. No detail is too much........

The big thing we need to answer is "is the hv battery really dead" or is it just indicating that way.
Do you hear the main HV relays kicking in when you try to put it in drive/reverse?
