Yeah, because no one ever goes to parking garages, home depot is stuffed with EVs about to run out of a charge, and colleges are pretty much a truck paradise.

    ;-)

it's not that. a college parking garage doesn't help the general public, nor private business' where you can't walk to something.
we need more public charging in popular areas. there may not be a ton of plug ins at places like home depot, but there are usually a few.
restaurant area's, hotels, retail and such would all do well i think.

The ONE time I got a real charge in my home state that wasn't at my house, a family member's house or at work was at a college parking lot. I was at the Colorado School of Mines for work, and it was a pretty long drive to get there (16.4 miles) and then home (16 miles). I'm not sure I'd have made it Ev-only without that charge.

at 95% ev on the current tank, the only chargers that will help me are the ones 7 miles out or more.

I think you are pointing out that a college EVSE would cater to only a fraction of the general public -- those that drive to or near the college. Quite true, but that is no different than any EVSE, anywhere.

Moreover, I think it fair to say that a public EVSE should be judged by it's actual utility: how many times it is used in a day, and how much EV adoption it facilitates. An EVSE at home depot ICE'd by trucks is certainly as public as it gets but not too effective. This is a complicated topic and I don't think the cause is much advanced by me pointing out where a public EVSE will do me good -- but perhaps only me.

Personal opinion: Public EVSEs at work places will make a difference in EV adoption because they are something of a captive audience, with the same people travelling to them most days of the week. I'd love to see ChargePoint engage businesses with over 25 employees.

Lastly, I apologize for the earlier snarky tone Bisco

Sort of not relevant, since you need a card (or smartphone app) unlock the charging station, whether or not there is a fee. But in any case I think the charges are always displayed on the charging station screen. With ChargePoint, the rates are determined by the owner of the charging station, not by the Chargepoint network, and "free" is one of their options.

Not much of an opportunity to me, since I already have a Chargepoint Home EV charger.

the Hotels you speak of @bisco already have 120 volt outlets to cater to the RV's so they're probably not in any hurry to put 240 volt outlets in any time soon.

could be, i've never noticed any, traversing i-95 from here to fl, but maybe they are at the back of the parking lot.

Did you ask? Every motel I stopped at going out west had a 120 volt outlet. All you had to do was ask.

    1. Pick up your BMW i3-REx with a full charge.
    2. Walk over to a restaurant to eat while waiting for a repair.
    3. Stagger back from a bar while a slow leak is repaired.
