is there anyboady above 6’3 and can share experience if position is ok on long distance, visibility of road, cockpit is ok, enough place for head and legs? solar panels minimize place above head?
Just about every Gen5 review/comment I've seen negatively mentions the gauge cluster placement. Combined with the low and sloping roofline, I think it applies whether you're 5'8" or 6'5". This excerpt from one review pretty well captured my impressions: The weird party trick is the instrument cluster placement. Instead of sitting directly behind the steering wheel like most cars, the Prius puts its digital gauge display up high near the base of the windshield. Toyota’s idea is “eyes up,” which I get in theory. In practice? Your experience depends heavily on how you sit. If you like a higher seat position or you tend to raise the steering wheel for comfort, there’s a decent chance you’ll partially block your own view of that cluster with the rim of the wheel. I’ve driven enough press cars to know this isn’t just me being picky it’s a common complaint among drivers who don’t naturally sit low with their arms extended. You can usually adjust around it lowering the seat slightly, bringing the wheel down or out but that’s where the learning curve comes in. Some people will find their sweet spot quickly. Others will be mildly annoyed every morning until they do. I'm 6'4". Got a '26 LE (base HEV) for my daughter, drove it 2000+ miles to her in California. Cluster placement definitely irritating but I could work around it. Also being old/tall/cranky, getting into/out of the Prius was challenging - ergonomics for old and tall folks not great. Having said that, actual driving comfort for me was fine. Edit: forgot to mention, yes I did remove the rear headrests for better visibility, it helped.
I wonder why Toyota no longer offers a HUD in the Gen5. At least on the Non-Prime. Sloping windshield the reason?
Could very well be due to the windshield angle. The instrument cluster is positioned like a HUD, much higher than in other vehicles.
Guilty. I'm only 6'2", but unless the seat is all the way down, I can't get into it. I don't have a beef with the instrument cluster location, and I'd have placed it higher and farther out, but it does limit where the wheel can be placed.
