    Obviously now clear there are 2 potential fire causes: (1) thermal runaway of the Li cells - which Tesla has managed with small style Li batts, and (2) physical or other damage to the cells from external sources - which Tesla has managed with various engineering features, but it seems Item2 is what we are talking about. Recall that Mr. Musk suggested Boeing did not consider Item 1 adequately in the 787's (larger Li cells).

    Yep the tesla battery management system (BMS) takes care of thermal run away well.

    How the tesla is built may be absolutely fine. This may be media hype, or there may be something that tesla can do to make it even safer. Tesla should take these things seriously but there might not be a design problem at all. That will take a little time

    I'm part of the class, and I have not been harmed. This is one of those law suits where they are hoping for a stock crash. Its recovering today.

    This firm is probably going after every plug in builder. Although the others have had no fires, there have been injuries. For instance, the couple in this Volt suffered back & neck injuries . . . but no fire:
    Yhe Model S has suffered fires but no injuries. Damned if you do . . . damned if you don't

    They were rear ended by a school bus and had two children in the back seat who were unharmed!

    Fortunately, despite the damage, the driver of the Volt stated, "Except for some back and neck pain for my wife and I, it was a miracle that there wasn’t any more injuries." The two children seated in the rear of the Volt escaped completely unharmed.

    It isn't just the stock prices where reputation damage can occur, it is in resale value too. An example I'm all too familiar with is Porsche's M96 engine and the ISB issue. Lots of people saying not a problem were drowned out by a few who lost their engines to the issue and spoke of their experiences online. Accelerated depreciation dramatically once more came on the market and there were less people interested in buying.

    email I received from tesla today included this.

    I don't by the struck by lightning argument, but the numbers of fires should not hurt sales. They are taking steps to reassure buyers.

    Nope, there are hundreds of these posted to YouTube. As well as some results of debri coming through the floorboards. People are just too acclimated to it.
