In one sense - there will be no more standard Range (SR) model Y - based on statements he made at Q2 earnings call. Musk is saying the minimum will now be as much or more then be SR+.

After Killing Tesla Model Y SR, Musk Says New Normal Range Is 300 Miles

    According to Musk;

As the author mentions, this does not bode well for Volkswagen Porsche Audi & there 200ish mile, vehicles.

There is a market for 200-mile range BEV.

the market for 200 mile range cars is reserved for manufacturers without a nationwide charging network

    What does that mean?

Remember, many people cannot afford such an expensive purchase. Others simply don't need that much EV range.

Also, the network is nowhere near capacity needed for supporting the masses. In fact, the current available only proves viability.

SUre there is. Many people could use one to commute 20 miles each way and have the buffer needed for traffic difficulties, an occasional stop, HVAC needs and of course cold. But a 200 mile range car would have to sell for well less than one with a 300 mile range. But it could sell, sure enough, and even outsell the 300 mile one as a second car.

But not a big one for 200 mile BEVs that cost more than a 300 mile one.

    $2,500/share?

Joking aside, you don't have to buy new. If you're willing to buy a Tesla with 10K miles on it or so, eBay shows successfully completed listing, clean title, mid-range, just under $30k.

I suspect with 300 miles being the new Norm, at least on the model y, the market for mid-range is going to have to drop accordingly. Nothing better than a nice ride being able to get passed on to those who can't afford to drive new off the lot.

Sure. If Toyota would come out with a Prius EV with 200 mile range for less than ~$30K it could sell.
I'd get one as my second car. Even at 150 miles.

    good catch!
Man, that's paying a lot for a salvage title, even if it has been fixed. Okay, making me earn the point - here's a standard range+ that sold, clean title, paint upgrade, sold with only 3,900 miles on it. $35K .... not too shabby!

there aren't any used tesla bargains around here.when i search, i give up, thinking, i might as well buy new. the old adage, 'a new car depreciates x percent as soon as it's been driven off the lot' does not apply to tesla.

green car reports: when shopping for a used tesla, a video by 'rich rebuilds' can help keep you out of hot water. 'here are the must do's, before buying a used tesla'

according to tesla's misleading website, i can buy a model 3 for 38k. less 9k fed and state tax credit, that's 29k.
i can't find a used model 3 close to that, never mind anywhere below it.

fed rebate is around 7,500 if a manufacturer has sold under 200k vehicles. Needless to say several manufacturers are still trying to achieve that goal even combining their electrics & PHEV's together. Then free fed money tapers off. Tesla has sold over a million vehicles - so they are now selling a bu ch - despite having no free money from the feds. That's a great sign that the buying public is more accepting if the market.
Rebates also turn on battery size so if it's puny then the rebate is puny

    I'm aware of the program;).

But I thought Tesla has been weaned off (or nearly there).

Now if @bisco is getting $9k in rebates back, does that mean Taxachussetts rebates are approaching $9k .

Just checking the math for future reference (y).
