    The answer to new technologies and competition is "building a better mousetrap" not protecting your old and outmoded less efficient mousetrap from competition.

    If Tesla can do better, that's great. They will be manufacturing in China, also.

    The same was said of Japan and Japanese automobiles in the 1970's and '80's for those in support of buying GM, Ford, Chrysler and the defunct American Motors.

    A hundred years ago, the victors were meeting in Versailles where the UK and all the monarchies and empires of Europe and Asia lost their economic and military standing in the world to the US. The reluctant successor, the US., waited 20 years later for another war to resolve the issues unresolved from the treaty .

    Most likely, Tesla will time the release for the Model Y such that there is always a nice backlog for a few more years

    That's pretty negative. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (one of the earliest) I am optimistic we can live in a world without war if we reject megalomaniac world leaders.

    And the the base $35K model 3.
    No one knows other than it will be smaller than the model X. I doubt it will have Falcon wing doors, but it will have the model 3 U.I. system with a similar interior style (so will the refreshed model S and X coming this year.)
