Salesman: I can give you a real good deal on this one...

Perhaps we have matured a bit. The media doesn't have its panties in a bunch over this and the market as dismissed it as the stock price has been relatively stable.

No hatred for Tesla, just not a fan, as you and others are not a fan for Toyota and their forward thinking on H2. No vehicle is perfect and as you can see Tesla may be a great car, but its not perfect either.

    And for perspective, per
    Highway vehicle fires by year
, there were 164,000 highway vehicle fires in the US alone in 2013. That'd be an average of 446/day.

260 milion cars in US and 0.164 milion fires = 0.06 % cars end up in flames
X Teslas on road and Y fires = ? Teslas end up in flames

No no - orengi is right - he's helping us to make sure that you understand how dangerous the tesla is. Thankyou sir - you are great! We don't care whether per billion miles driven, that tesla has over 11x less fires than gas burners .... because that doesn't even matter ! Burn tesla burn! hehe. Oh! and just because HUNDREDS burn to death each year in gasoline car fires, and NO ONE has ever been burned in a tesla - that doesn't even matter either ... burn Tesla burn -
    burn burn burn
and they'll soon go bankrupt too - even as they burn!
    teehehe

Don't know who "you & others" are - but we personally, wouldn't have both a Prius & a Lexus SUV hybrid if we hated them. So who knows, what group you think don't find Toyota's success great. Oh, that's right, it's time to deflect about what the issue is. Hydrogen. Sorry. Carry on.

Toyota is NOT hydrogen. Their multi-hundred million dollar wet-dream / money wasting abortion is just an attempt to derail plugins at all cost - so that their hydrogen fail won't look so bad. On the other hand, I'd wager 99.99% of PC members, including yours truly, would commend toyota for all their hard work & huge success with ALL the plugins & hybrids that Toyota have ever made. It's not the 99.99% of us that have an issue my friend.

The fact that Tesla is before Toyota on manufacturer drop down lists?

Fires in cars is fairly stable based on age of vehicle.
Newer cars tend to have more fires due to arson and accidents, older cars have fewer of the above, but more fires due to mechanical issues.

    Your bias really is interesting.
I don't think anybody has ever claimed Tesla's are "perfect".
Why do you keep insisting there are people that do?

According to the news I read, the customer and sales rep were both out of the car before the fire actually got started. There was a smell and some smoke that warned them.

Yep, I was looking for news since the OP didn't include a link.
There was a noise, and charging warning came up from the car. The Tesla rep had the driver stop, and they all got out of the normally before the fire started.

Well if you have read the news today Karman as in Fisker Karman is back in the game, and will start sales this September 2016. Cars are gonna be built in California and their Headquarters will be in Irvine CA. I would think this will be good for Tesla and give them some competion in the EV market,
