When will Nicola file suit against Toyota for having hydrogen fueled fuel cell trucks running in L.A.?

@orenji is okay, just casting bait on the Tesla sub-forum. I am going to let him drive my model 3 so he too can wear a Tesla grin! :D

Nicola has no significant financial backing so they file frivolous lawsuits in the misguided hope to keep them solvent.

Frivolous or not, this does not help Elon Musk at all image control is now needed as well as more money out the door for legal bills.

I agree, there is a significant sub-set of people/organizations (the petroleum industry, stock manipulators, competing auto makers, climate deniers, Luddites, and even members of Prius Chat) who want to see Tesla fail. But Tesla will succeed and succeed bigly. I wish the same for Toyota but they need to produce a competitive BEV first.

No worries for Toyota, 2nd largest car company in the world has no fear about Tesla. If it where not for Toyota's and Mercedes Benz money there would be no Tesla.

If there were no Akio Toyoda, Toyoto would be a key player in the Tesla juggernaut instead of the hydrogen fuel cell debacle. And if there were no Elon Musk, there would be no Tesla and no clear path to a sustainable energy future for personal transportation.

    Two questions:
    1. Has anyone identified the Judge hearing this case?
    2. Is there an open source showing activities in the case?
    Thanks,

Problem is - the trucking industry created the low drag concept years prior to this non-existent / fly by night / vaporware company ....

Remember Walmart’s Efforts at Truck Design?

    Walmart's Truck Fleet

Maybe Walmart oughta sue the non-existent vaporware company for 2 billion ... oh wait - they got no money - just hydrogen vapor

I was curious about Nikola Motors and they reported using "The Glider Kit Specialists | Fitzgerald Glider Kits" as the builder. Then I remembered a problem with 'glider' trucks:

Source: Glider kits: A loophole for ‘dirty trucks’ or savings for truckers? | American Trucker

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) got an earful during its Dec. 4 public hearing on its proposal to exempt heavy-duty glider vehicles, glider engines, and glider kits from the Phase 2 greenhouse gas emissions rule.

During the earlier part of the daylong hearing, those who oppose the move referred to it as a loophole for “dirty trucks.” But advocates of repeal touted savings for smaller trucking businesses.

Steven Cliff, deputy executive officer of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), called the proposed repeal illegal, adding it would have a “profoundly harmful impact on public health.”

The glider loop hole is the fact that semi emission regulations are tied to the date the engine was built, not the truck itself. A glider is essentially the truck minus the engine. So you can have a brand new truck using an old, polluting engine.

For a start up making hydrogen FCEV trucks, or even electric and hybrid ones, a glider company is a readily available source for the truck, letting them focus on their drive train.

More bad news for Nikola Motors: Daimler Trucks North America unveils two Freightliner electric vehicle models and Electric Innovation Fleet - Green Car Congress

Freightliner Trucks premiered two fully electrified commercial vehicles—a Freightliner eCascadia heavy-duty truck and a Freightliner eM2 106 medium-duty truck—during the Daimler Trucks Capital Market and Technology Day in Portland. Freightliner plans to deliver an Electric Innovation Fleet of 30 vehicles to customers later this year for further testing under real-world operating conditions.

Both electrified Freightliner models are designed to fit specific applications, carefully identified through an extensive co-creation process with customers. The goal is to build and deliver commercial electric vehicles that support the business and sustainability goals of our customers.
