So, I always expect gas prices to soar before a holiday, but rarely see them soar again after a holiday. Last weekend gas in Central Indiana rose to $2.99/gal. Today it shot up again to $3.10/gal. Craziness. I am so so happy I traded in my gas guzzler who got 18 mpg for my Prius.

And yes, I know to the West Coasters out there the gas prices above may seem heavenly, but for Indiana I have never seen it hit $3.10 and that was at one of the cheap stations!!!

    Hey Indy,

Actually, prices are goofy out here Christmas = $2.20, steady rise to a high of $3.72 first week in May (what's that all about), steady drop to this past Sunday $3.26. I just got back from a trip to Sacramento, about 120 miles away from the Bay Area and filled up at ARCO/BP for $2.99! Go Figure!

Temperature never exceeded 94 F, 51 MPG there all freeway all AC about 70 MPH holiday luggage 3 people; and, 42 MPG taking the river road and assorted back roads back to the city. 74 F in the city when we returned.

We have goofy gas but wow what a georgeous weekend! The coast was superb and God gave us a real sunset not that foggy hazy stuff, hahaha!

I was lucky enough to fill up last night in Lafayette for $2.85! I went to work this morning in Fishers and saw gas for $2.86. Then at lunch $3.09. That God for the Prius!

Costco in Vacaville, CA: $2.89 (but rising). I buy goofy gas, too. :p

God, it's beautiful out here: dropped to 10 degrees below normal for a couple of days.

    Hey Indy
I sometimes have just the opposite experience. My coworkers hate hearing me complain when the price drops.

Me: Dangit, the price of gas dropped.
    Them: So go fill up.
Me: I can't; I only have 350 miles on this tank and I want to work the mileage up a little more before I refill. There's no telling how long it'll take me to drive another 250 miles.

I love Ohio for the Giant Eagle stores, couple of weeks back the bf was able to buy gas for $1.05/gallon. you better bet he bought an extra gas can to fill at that price to get his 30 gallons worth.

The spike today as well as the stock market going in the dumpster was thanks to North Korea shooting off their weapons!

I figured as much. So nice how the economy can be the first thing to react! The weather is beautiful here as well. Thanks to everyone for sharing! I guess I shouldn't complain. My dealer had a special when I bought my Prius on Memorial Day and I got a $200 gas card with it! Still.... I remember the less than $1 days when I was in high school!

Thats pretty funny. I justified buying the prius because the savings in gas and repairs, etc on my old BMW almsot offset my payments on the Prius. When the cost of gas goes down, my justification erodes making me sad :-( Then I got laid off last week and will hopefully get a new job that is closer to my house which makes my purchase also a little less economical. What a bummer :)

I paid 17 cents a gallon for gas when I was in high school in Indiana, and that was full service, plus they gave you a free glass or bowl or coffee mug.

I'm just glad I got two hybrids. I still use less gas, combined, then my neighbors ONE Stupid Useless Vehicle.

Wow, I guess I'm getting old, I remember putting gas in my 1965 Catalina for 57 cents. But I also remember chocolate chip cookies 12 for a nickle, and ...

wow, from this thread it appears gas is pretty much the same all over the US (cities)!

600 miles on a tank? Whoah.

(has not been to the gas station yet since buying Prius, but at 325 miles, there are 2 bars left on the gauge)

I go the San Diego every summer (Del Mar) and all I see are BMW's. At least now you get to drive a Prius even if just for a short distance....I came close to buying a used 7 series before my Prius purchase and am sure I made the right decision, even with only a 7 mile commute.

I said the very same thing the week after I bought mine. Louisiana and Mississippi were getting pounded and fuel prices went out of sight. Timing isn't everything but sometimes it makes all the difference...

Now for something that doesn't use petroleum at all...
