All this Citroen talk reminded me that they also produced Wankel engine cars.

The 'de esse' (French for goddess), aka Desiree Speciale, arrived from the future in 1954, and may yet look futuristic in 2054. It is at once quirky, cool, and sophisticated. Very few cars have had a similar influence.

Let's not forget the SM, a Citroen with a Maserati engine.

Can we get Bill the Engineer to put one on a Prius chassis? But keep the hydropneumatic suspension?

Oooh, yes. I came across an SM in Canberra a couple of years ago.

Adding Italian build quality to French engineering reliability was a moment of perverse genius, up there with the Alfa Romeo Arna (80s Japanese design flair, Italian build quality), but it was a truly lovely thing. It looked like the kind of car Captain Kirk would have driven.

In my middle age, I volunteered as a Motor Racing Marshall and marshalled for many different classes of race cars. Surprisingly, one of the most exciting classes involved 2CVs!!! You were not allowed to modify the engine, gearbox or chassis/bodywork, so it was only the driver could make the result. It lead to extremely competitive racing with as many as four abreast rounding some of the faster turns. Turned out to be incredibly exciting spectator sport also. In UK it was pronounced by Jasper Carrot (Brummie comedian) as a vegetarians car because if it were ever to cope with a bunny rabbit the we a much better chance for the rest to survive.

Can't find the exact track, but this is Jasper Carrot:

I think @Prodigyplace was talking about post 28 then. But it appears @tochatihu fixed the jalopnik link on his own.

I saw it and gasped in horror. It was so long that I had trouble gasping for that long.

"my favourite Star Trek TOS episode" @32. Wow. No accounting for taste then.

"Balance of terror", Space seed", or in a pinch, "The menagerie"

It's the idea more than anything - thinking about what a modern Rome would be like.

The Menagerie was the "inspiration" (read: source material) for one of the early episodes of The Orville, too.
