For those outside the U.S., it's a plug-in hybrid minivan. Why Chrysler decided to drop plug-in is beyond me. (Probably marketing purposes).

    Edit: Added EPA numbers

    • Active grill shutter + underbody panels = most aerodynamic minivan on the market
    • 3.6L Atkinson cycle V6
    • 84MPGe
    • 33 mile AER
    • 32 mpg in C-S mode
    • 6.6 kW charger
    • 16kWh Li-Ion battery
    • 120V = 12-16 hours, 240V = 2 hours

Chrysler's estimating 31 MPG combined, by the way, per this: All-New 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

It's amazing to me that Toyota actually gave up the hybrid leadership in this department to Chrysler of all companies.

Also, I'm wondering how well a Pacifica Hybrid mini camper (think along the lines of Mercedes V-Class (Metris) and Volkswagen Transporter-based campers) would work. No heat pump means winter camping wouldn't work so hot, but the 16 kWh battery will be helpful, as will the hybrid system. Add a pop-up roof...

Looks pretty good feature wise. Being Chrysler I don't think I would spend $45K on it until I was shown they could do it with good reliability though.

Keep in mind that you'd get $7500 back from the feds (I'd buy any PHEV or BEV products by December 31, 2017, though, if you want that credit).

But, yeah, reliability is always the concern with FCA.

    Dropping the US plug-in? Rats.
My other car is a VW Routan which is really a Dodge Caravan.

The reason Chrysler can do this is their Stow and Go seats create huge underfloor space that can be re-purposed for battery storage. obviously.

I ain't paying $45k but I will watch the used car prices.

What Tideland Prius meant, I'm pretty sure, is that they're not calling it a plug-in, just calling it a hybrid, even though it is a plug-in.

I believe Colorado puts $5k on the hood as well (no longer a tax credit).

    MERGED - Use multiquote

At the announcement Chrysler marketing said they had found the term "plug-in hybrid" confused consumers. I would bet consumers heard "plug in" and thought it was electric only. I get asked quite often what I do when my Prius battery is dead and how long it takes to recharge.

And add in the fact that you can't control EV modes, presumably for KISS (Keep It Simple (for) Soccermoms), it will operate just like a regular hybrid. With 30 mile range, I can see soccermom type drivers, who mainly take kids to school, grocery getter, etc, mainly using gas on family trips.

    Two negs: price and FCA.

Is the price that bad? The TFL link from above states it'll start at $42k. Quick look at Toyota.com shows the Sienna starts at $30k so after the $5k Colorado is putting on this thing's hood and the $7,500 from the feds the starting price of the Pacifica hybrid is about $1k less than the Sienna. It's hard to say until Chrysler gets models out the door but it looks like the Pacifica is better equipped at that price point than the Sienna. The only thing I like more about the Sienna is available AWD. Quality is an unknown at this point. Toyota has the perceived better quality but with such a huge range between models and Chrysler's recent improvements I don't think you can fairly call it one way or the other.

    there are 49 other states.

it's not chryslers recent quality improvements, it's their bad rep that precedes them. that being said, they sell a ton of minivans, and this will have no competition for some time.

what's the delta between hybrid and non hybrid mpg?

FCA's estimate is 31 MPG combined in CS mode, 80 MPGe combined in CD mode, for the Pacifica Hybrid.

The standard model is 18 city, 28 highway, for 22 combined.

Does it matter? If your state isn't offering $5k on the hood you pay the $10 free to register an LLC in Colorado and plate your car to your LLC.

It's illegal everywhere, but start looking at how many big RVs and super cars are plated in Montana from people doing exactly this (to avoid sales tax and registration fees). What your state misses out on in revenue will be minor compared to those people, and why would your state care if Colorado is giving you money or not?

it started here during revenue drought, maybe gov dukakis, not sure. we have a ton of snowbirds with florida plates, and the rest have homes or relatives in new hamster. they created a drop a dime program on your neighbor, then they run your residence etc., and drag you in if you reside in ma, but your car is registered somewhere else.

    IIRC, Chrysler invented the minivan.

exactly, and they made hay for years before the competition caught on. but they may also have invented the practice of installing known bad parts, thinking it was cheaper than scrapping them.:p
